What is scary is that our local talk radio shows are saying, "What if the 3 shooters are Muslim's that joined the Army with this intent in mind?" I don't know about that since the one shooter they have ID'd is a Major (and has a Muslim name) - so that is 8 years of commitment to the US Army to set this up. But then again, 8 years ago was 9/11. They are wondering if terrorists have infiltrated our military forces and are waiting for their opportunity. I'm hoping it's just a random nutjob and a couple of nutjob buddies.

Posts: 1237 (11/05/09 6:36 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	they've released the 2 others they took into custody. the shooter's cousin was just on fox. the shooter was born in the u.s. went to virginia tech (which seems to have a higher ratio of violent kooks). was a psychiatrist who counseled returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress syndrome. the cousin said the shooter had tried to get out of the military for a long time. he was arguing with higher ups over it. but the military just transferred him from walter reed to ft. hood before shipping him out to iraq or afghanistan, bc that's where you really, really want to send someone who is desperate to get out of the military, of course. does not sound a terrorist thing at all. and not some radical muslim thing. kay bailey hutchison is now saying the shooter targeted people he knew.

I'm hoping it's just a random nutjob and a couple of nutjob buddies. i am NOT arguing as i don't know the specifics of when this guy enlisted BUT that is totally incorrect as a firm time commitment for a medical officer. i know of a guy that enlisted as an officer after 9/11 and having NO previous army experience went IN as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Maybe Medical inductees are different or maybe he had an MS or even a PhD? That could account for the discrepancy. I just know that straight out of college folks with a BS go in as 2nd Lieutenants. Maybe a professional goes in at a higher rank?

My sister started as a 03 because of her medical experience (she's in the commission corps which is different but the pay and entry is the same). She'll easily be at an 04 in eight years.
