It could be that some alliances change at the merge (based on who people knew on their own seasons). Rupert/Colby would have been brought into a new alliance based on needing numbers. Rupert might not do as well in the challenges this time as an athletic younger woman. Therefore, he isn't seen as big of a threat. Plus Colby/Rupert probably don't want to align with 20 something women.

Sandra screwed people over when it mattered. And she made big moves at the right time (Siding with the women to outs Burton. ) And thats why she made the finals, and won. (Well she won because people hated Lil but still LOL) More "anyone but me" need to learn how to do this lol.
