I actually think she's funniest when she's just spouting sarcasm off the cuff. The scripted jokes don't really work for her.

yah but I think even the sarcasm is scripted now

all comedians on TV use writers..ever see Letterman collecting his Emmys with all his writers?

You can always tell when she is using a scripted bit... it happens usually two or three times an episode.... She'll say her bit and then sit back smiling
like the proverbial cat that ate the canary waiting for the audience to react, which then do.

Yeah but most of their jokes are usually funny. And it kind of goes against the point of the show about people discussing things for the first time when
you're planning what to say and when to say it.
I think her sarcastic jokes are usually the best too. You can tell when whatever she says isn't pre-written cause she cracks herself up, which is kind of offputting but whatevs. |

MsJulieR wrote:Yes, that's obvious, but this is supposed to be a topical discussion style show of the women giving their viewpoints... the writers they showed who work with her are all men... this isn't comedy night at the improv... |

Yes.. Hot topics was supposed to be an off the cuff discussion on the days topics that they talked about for the first time.... it just kind of ruined it for me that Joy and her writer planned so much of what she would say on the subjects.... she is still mostly my favorite on their... was just disappointed |

I'd still rather listen to Joy spout off pre-planned jokes than more than half the things that come out of Barbara's, Eliabitch's, or Sherri's
mouths. And Whoopi is quickly approaching their levels. I'm really not sure why I watch that show anymore.

The only difference between Joy and Letterman (and Colbert and Fallon) is that these men are part of the writing team and Joy isn't. Letterman actually
sits with his writers to discuss how to write up his monologues and jokes while joy just gets hers handed to her.

This show is definitely scripted. Marla Maples broke up Donald Trump and Ivana's marriage - yet she has Marla on as a victim of divorce. They were only
married for 5 years! This was nothing more to him than a business deal. She should have had Ivana on the show with Ivanka about what that was like.

I watch this show when I get home from work before I get to The View. I usually fast forward through most of it. Too bad cuz I really like Joy.
