Zing! You got me! Comparing something I said in a dramatically different situation somehow shows that Jaison was dead-on in this situation.

You missed my point. I never said he was dead on, only that I respect the fact that he stood up for himself--- whether it came off as pretentious or not. Erik insulted him. Jaison insulted Erik right back using whatever arsenal he had. It was tit for tat (Erik wants to claim superiority in survivor and Jaison responds by insinuating he's superior in life). It was a completely human reaction. I would agree with you that Erik mentioning that Jaison is making the completely wrong comparison and should compare survivor resumes instead was dead on; however, the fact that Erik was voted out after making such statements completely undermines your point, don't you think?

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I just thought it was sort of a weak way for him to stand up for himself. Erik was talking about his gameplay - what if he game back with something like, "You're short" or "You're fat" - something irrelevant. And, in this case, he was elitist - "you're a bartender, I don't care what you think." I mean what if my response to you right now was, "I went to Yale, so you're wrong." It would be both arrogant and ridiculous.

Also I don't think "standing up for yourself" by directly confronting someone is always the best idea. In this case, you're right, Erik goes home, so he looks like a jerk. But that doesn't change the fact that it was sort of a jerky thing for Jaison to say.

You might be surprised at how I might come back at you if you used the "I went to Yale" argument. It may be irrelevant, but I'm just as capable as anyone at playing tit for tat if I felt emotionally moved to do so.

I will concede that Jaison's remarks can be interpreted as elitist and pretentious (I perceived it as tit for tat when it started feeling really personal to him), but keep in mind that he was pretty pissed off and not really thinking it through rationally. It was completely knee jerk on his part. I think that he attempted to follow through with his remarks when he discussed the obstacles he has faced in life to get to where he is--- maybe I read too much into it, but he may also have been insinuating that Erik was not considering some of the random contextual variables in the game that contributed to his tribe's demise as well as the advantages that Erik's tribe is enjoying.
