I don't know about V, I think they made the right decisions with the first episode the issues I have with the show is that you see these same themes 3 to 4
times a year. The clandestine two sides doing battle thing..... what is V going to say that hasn't already been said in Jericho, Lost, Heroes, Battlestar
Gallactica and Fringe? I can't stand Morris Chestnut and Joel Gretsch in the roles they've been given, it just makes my stomach sink thinking about
how they are going to make a love triangle with Elizabeth Mitchell's character work. Will Mitchell's be breeding a little V-baby with Chestnut? How
long will Gretsch suffer with his priestly feelings before he becomes defrocked.

Is he even a Catholic priest though? He could be Episcopal or something.

They referenced higher ups, that sounds to me like catholic doctrine to me, whatever the Pope says goes. |

Putting in spoiler tags for people who didn't see the original mini... |

Just watched the pilot. Thoughts and feelings:
At first I thought this show was anti-religion with its swipes at faith and devotion and even seeing a ceramic-Jesus crane down and try to kill that wheelchair-dude. But then I realized, half-way through the show, this series isn't anti-religion, it's anti-Obama. (I know, I know, I'm late to the party, but I'm just watching this show for the first time.) Obama is an "other" in this culture by being black; he's so much an alien to much of bigoted, white America that they don't even believe he's from the US or are willing to believe he wants to kill grannies, etc. etc. The racial distrust is so palpable that anyone who sees Obama differently than an 'evil-negro' is a wacko "drinking the koolaid" that treats Obama like a "messiah." Truth is, Obama is essentially a black Clinton or Tony Blair. And this show isn't only tinged with Obama-fear but also the growing fear and awareness of homosexuals in society. So it's no surprise that the head alien ambassador looked and acted like the biggest cliche lesbian in the book. And this whole subplot of aliens claiming to be good for society but secretly having a dark, double life with sinister motivations. Like, I'm sure if you peeled back a gay's skin, you'd see a lizard-dude there. So, final verdict: This show is regressive, anti-Obama and anti-gay. |

Meh. I'm not a big alien sci-fi person. I mean Lost/Heroes are cool but i never was into Aliens. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity of seeing
Elizabeth Mitchell again. I'll see after the first few episodes.

Elizabeth Mitchell is hot and I'd totally do her, but that outfit she was wearing towards the beginning when she went to her office was not the best
choice.

Ana and Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) are the only reasons to watch this show.

I got around to watching the original miniseries for the first time today. I have a hard time seeing the show as having an enduring legacy. Mind you, I've
always felt the same thing about the original Star Trek (and I love The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine to death). I reckon the EM-led version is already
an improvement. I mean, come on, inviting the Secretary General into the ship? Nobody has ever cared, or will ever care, about the UN.

I cut them some slack for the UN invite -- the lizards can't be playing favorites. Imagine the snitfit Putin would throw if they invited Obama, or what
we'd do if they invited Chairman Hu.
I think the comparisons to Obama are overwrought and pretty much a fool's game. Besides there is no way Hollywood would let an extended criticism of him last for very long. Meanwhile, somebody in Lisa de Moraes' weekly chat was bitching about a dog being shot in the first half hour. I don't remember anything about this. Anyone else? Was there another show on this week where a dog got shot? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2009/11/02/DI2009110201575.html |
