What I find curious is that S8 was apparently the lowest rated season yet it had the most votes ever... where did all the voters come from?? because clearly something screwy is happening when you do a vote to sale comparison.... You're assuming votes will translate into sales, which is a fallacy. People who watch American Idol and vote are not the same people who buy music. Hell, if you look at any AI boards, most of the fans don't even listen to contemporary radio, claiming instead to be some hag in her 60s who hadn't listened to anything since Elvis but would buy only their favorite Menopause Idol's music. American Idol is a TV show, it attracts TV fans who view the contestants as TV show personalities. When the season is over, these fans either forget about the contestants or move on to the next season. Music fans, on the other hand, may or may not buy AI products. |

You're assuming votes will translate into sales, which is a fallacy. Initial sales are in fact from Idol fans... that is who bought Kelly, Carrie, Clay, Daughtry, Cook, Archie and Jordin's music initially so it's ridiculous to say that the voters don't buy the music. I've watched since season 1 and I've bought music from every season except season 3... the generalization that votes don't equate to sales is total bullshit... that's the purpose of the show.. to gain fans who will buy your music...regardless of radio support. Not to mention the only fans who have ever really said they don't listen to radio are Clay's and Taylor's fans and that is because neither of them had radio friendly music. It's easy to dismiss radio play when you know your favorite isn't going to get radio play LOL... Can't speak for anyone else but I listen to top 40, Hot AC and/or alternative rock radio every day depending on what I'm in the mood to hear. The goal is to build on their initial AI fanbase... only three have been really successful at doing this so far (kelly, carrie and daughtry)... and it's too early to tell for the season 7 people but judging from Jordin's sophmore sales she hasn't picked up new fans since her season.. at least not to buy her 2nd album... |

I liked Blake during his season, I just don't care about his music that much. The album cover is also kind of scary.
Oh, I also bought Kim Locke's two albums. |

eraserhead19 wrote: That's bullshit. I've seen it said universally by fans of every contestant from every season, that had a visible fan base, including the season 8s. And radio friendly depends on the size of the support check, or lack of it, from the label.

eraserhead19 wrote: Absolutely! Except for Jordin's fans. I've never seen any. What I see is that most people despise the radio, they listen to their own playlists on portable devices. The only people that I know that listen to radio are those that have it on at work or have cheap cars with no CD player, or iPod hookup in their car. That is why radio is dying and the music business with it. Radio isn't a music business, its in the business of selling commercial airtime, the songs are the filler between ads. Nobody in their right mind wants to hear the same 10 shitty songs in heavy rotation. Well, maybe you do but we've established that you have some screws loose so... |

Nobody in their right mind wants to hear the same 10 shitty songs in heavy rotation. That is not the point moron. The point is you still want your favorite to be one of those 10 songs in heavy rotation because regardless of what you might think radio helps sales and sales are still important. |

Thinking that radio hits aren't bought makes you an even bigger moron. Payola is the name of the game... always has been... always will be.
Now back to my opinion of the debut albums..Adam may sell more debut CDs, but I believe his appeal will decline quite rapidly as he is a novelty act. Kris Allen's style and music is more appealing to the everyday person. He will be able to build a fanbase outside of the AI crowd because of this, so he will have longevity whereas Lambert won't. |

I bet Eraser is one of the idiots that bother radio DJ's to play -enter Idol contestants name- stupid songs

whitetrashdebutante wrote: yes.. that's right.. that's the cry of every person whose favorite never had a hit on radio.. PAYOLA!! Kris' style is more appealing because he blends in with everyone else. To say that a novelty act won't last is ironic when you consider they said the same thing about Michael, Britney, Madonna, and various others. Not to mention that Adam has clearly demonstrated he's not a one trick pony... when what he's doing now no longer works he can easily switch gears and do something else... Kris' has the cards stacked up against him just like adam when it comes to longevity... the only American Idol artists to date who can claim any kind of longevity is Kelly Clarkson... she's on her fourth album and is 7 years in... when she came off the show they said she'd be gone after her first single.... and Carrie Underwood.. who continues to score hit after hit.... the men don't fare nearly as well obviously. and sorry to disappoint you sunshine I've never been a street teamer and can count on one hand the number of times I've ever requested a song on radio, idol artist or otherwise. |
