Yeah, of course I knew that about her. She's been my favorite since the cast was revealed so I watched all of her interviews and I know about all of that.
Just because she works for conservative lobbyists doesn't mean she shares their viewpoints on every single thing. There's been no evidence showing me
that Laura would be homophobic. She might be conservative otherwise, but working for a right wing organization doesn't automatically make her hate gay
people. And if she does, oh well but what can I do about it?

Laura's a heinous piece of work, I'll agree, but I don't really care what any of these people do outside of the game. In fact, I prefer the ideological diversity. Would you rather have a cast of liberal models and actors from Los Angeles? Survivor has had plenty of conservatives over the years and you simply know that several big characters like Rudy, Big Tom, Helen, and Terry would vote against gay marriage if it ever reached their ballot box, let alone tons of early boots like Joanna, Leslie, and Roger. If I hated everyone who disagreed with me politically I'd have to hate over half of the country, so let Laura campaign for her causes and I'll campaign for mine, and I just know that in the near future mine will likely win in the courts, legislature, and polls. That really has nothing to do with her as a player, though. |

Survivor always casts a token redneck and a token Bible-thumper. Laura is at least smart enough to not rub her politics/religion into peoples' faces, so
I'll credit her for that.
Having said that, I really hate Laura. She strikes me as very smug and condescending. Shambo at least had something right when she described Laura as acting like the "cool girls" in high school. It's fine to have alliances, but not cliques. Laura strikes me as someone who is a bitch and proud of it. But not in a fun way like Jeri. Just in a nasty way. And where are the token gay guys this year? We always have to have at least one. |

I was thinking of more recent seasons (ie, post-Vanaatu), when the casting has really gone down the tubes and become much more stereotypical.

Ugh. This topic of a token gay guy just reminded me of what my boss said Friday. Don't read further if you're not interested.
He went on and on about Survivor always having a token flaming gay guy. He asked who my favorite was and I said, "The 38 year old grandmother." He then said, "Oh you like the dyke?"  (He thought Shambo.) He asked me if maybe the rocket scientist was the gay guy. He also commented on how
Richard Hatch probably loves prison because he's gay. I just kept saying, "Yeah maybe" since I'm still a newbie in the company.
