What you should do or at least what I did was call up the local stores over your city and ask them what their specials are on laptops. I got both of mind on sale very cheap.

My computer broke down last month and I was like, "Yes, finally I can get rid of that piece of shit."

My laptop is giving me this warning every time I turn it on now some bullshit like "your battery is able to charge but is running out of battery
life."
How often to laptop batteries go on computers, because I feel like mine is constantly needining to be replaced. |

Laptop batteries last 2-3 years. usually you'll notice that over time it stops holding its charge -- ie, you'll charge it up, but the battery and the
amount of time that it stays charged gets smaller and smaller over time.
I'm a Mac guy mostly out of habit -- I've had them for years and don't see any point in changing. But reading over this thread makes me love my Macs even more -- plug 'em in and they run until you want to get a new one. I've never had a minute of problems with any of them. |

my laptop battery has been completely dead for almost a year. I can only use it when it's plugged in.
the website shows that a new one costs about $130. ack! Fortunately, the machine runs great, otherwise. |

Computers are disposable, use them for a few years then toss them out and buy new ones.
There is absolutely no sense in upgrading old stuff when you know it will be an antiquated in 6 or more months. Most people do in this forum from what I can tell use their PC/Macs for casual Paintshop/Photoshop, light games and social networking. etc. I doubt you would want to spend any more than $700 on a Notebook/Laptop or $500 on a home PC. |

Too many conflicting reports!!
But the overwhelming opinion on Dell is good... which like I said before - I'm surprised. Is there really any difference between them though? Most important to me is that they last for at least 3 years... as long as it doesn't die within a year or two, I'll be happy with it! |

If your batteries are running down, take them out of the laptop and rub them on your head for 20 - 30 minutes. The static electricity will rejuvenate them.
