I've always wanted to go there about Harry, but the step brother's own issues and Dexter describing his desire to kill as an urge almost exonerates
Harry as being responsible for Dexter's need to kill. Harry's role, as described in the first season, was to train Dexter to not kill innocent people.
I go back and forth about Harry being wrong about Dexter, but it doesn't seem like he was. He saw Dexter's anti social or psychotic behavior and tried
to deal with it, I guess.

I dunno, there are kids who are destined to be evil, all you can do with them currently is channel it.
There was a kid in Toronto who committed three robberies and felony assaults and admitted he planned and led a gang rape of a 14 or 15 year old girl. He was 11 then. He couldn't even be charged as he was under 12. The media had a field day with the case, he can't be named or identified. I heard he has committed a series ofmore extreme crimes since then. There were two cousins who murdered a pair of sisters and another person. A really good friend of mine and every other cop in their neighbourhoods knew they were destined to be murderers, as far back as when they were 13 and 14, everyone knew it. Short of summarily executing these bastards at 3am and Dexterizing them, I don't believe psychiatry or the law can do squat for a sociopath who has an appetite for victimizing people.

Okay this season for some reason whigs me out. I had to sleep with the lights on last night.
Dexter's dad who is also a great actor and those scenes between the "dad in his head" and his own "voice in his head" are some seriously tough shit to watch. Why this man is not being respected as an actor along the lines of Jon Hamm who steps up to the plate on Mad Men has to be because Dexter is serial killer than serial fucker. |

mikeonfilm wrote: Yes, this is what I thought. Dexter blocked out what he saw as a very, very young child. It no doubt affected him, but I feel that Harry had much more to do with Dexter's current lifestyle than anything else. I almost feel like Harry used Dexter and specifically trained him to be a serial killer to exact some Dirty Harry revenge. Then, when he witnessed Dexter in the act, he realized the monster he created. Poor Dexter. The brother is easily explained as being older when witnessing the horror that went on in that storage container and then abandoned with his only known family (Dexter) being taken from him, and then being bounced around in the foster system & juvenile homes, etc. I am not buying the genetic theory at all. |

PinotEnvy wrote:I actually disagree with this. First of all, Dexter is not Trinity. Trinity is apparently even less of a loner than Dexter and is used to integrating with people. Even if they were precisely the same, Dexter got very close with Miguel Prado. Also, I think they're really trying to add a greater sense of hubris to Dexter's character. It's a logical progression. He's gotten progressively more arrogant to the point where he almost acts as if he's invincible. He's been doing this ever since he escaped the whole Bay Harbor Butcher investigation. |

Interesting spoiler, Christy. Thanks for that.
What if Trinity really does have four kills instead of three? Perhaps the fourth kill is a male in his thirties and because the person is buried alive the police (and Lundy) have never known there was a fourth. I think Dexter thinks he has Trinity not really figured out but close enough to where Dexter feels comfortable in his knowledge and his guard is down. Young woman, older woman, older man, ..... younger man? As long as it isn't a kid. Or - maybe Trinity has a ritual with a coffin where he sleeps in one to be reborn and forgiven for his actions. He spends the night and arises cleansed and ready to go again. |

Maybe Trinity's fourth kill is the murder of a young boy (Cody?), signifying his own "death" when he was little. I'm guessing that's who
the casket is for. The fourth victim will be buried alive.

Damn that was a good episode.
My favorite line: Dex: That doesn't sound like Harry. Harry: THANK you, Dex! |

I was hoping Trinity was priming Dexter to be his fourth victim.
