I remember this actor on Yes, Dear & he was such a goofball. I never imagined him playing a role like Kurt's dad but he's really good.

Kurt's dad impresses me as an actor. He shows it all on his face. You can feel his frustration.

I don't think you are ever going to see a network show as cold in its affection as AD ever again. The fact that AD couldn't get over the hump of
massive critical acclaim to mainstream success is probably a red flag for most in the business.
And I don't think Glee ever became too preachy tonight. I like giving Sue more depth. Sue isn't going to be showing us her softer side every week from now on. Will it come up again? Probably, but for the most part you gotta assume she will be the character we have seen and come to know. |

I also know Kurt's dad from 28 Days...the Sandra Bullock movie, not the zombie one. He was really good in that.
I don't really get Kurt's storyline this ep. I don't think singing "Defying Gravity" would make the Top 50 list of the most gay things people have witnessed Kurt doing. |

I agree -- the actor who plays Kurt's dad was really impressive tonight

Finished the ep now. Great episode, PC or not (personally I thought it was plenty non-PC). Loved seeing Proud Mary in wheelchairs. I cried at seeing Sue with
her sister - I have a friend whose brother had Downs syndrome and I loved him so much.
However, I did NOT like Kurt blowing the note for his father. I thought it kind of sent out a bad message of "Censor yourself to make other people comfortable." Gays would still all be in the closet if they had always followed that, since only 10 or 20 years ago (and still now) just being openly gay in and of itself, without doing anything like wanting to sing a girl's solo, could get people and their families calls like that. I wish the show sent out more of a message of being courageous to be who you are without muddying the moral by having plotlines like that. |

Premature angst over what ifs? We got to see Sue joyfully push an old lady down some stairs. To see her have a moment with her sister makes the show more of an
enigma and less of a one trick pony, but again this is how we see things. I concede your POV. I get it. : )

would you agree that this episode was very different from all the rest, TL?

One thing on Quinn/Puck/Finn. i feel kind of bad for Cory. It seems like mark can get chemistry with just about anyone and Cory can't. I was actually
pissed that Finn interrupted the food fight.

I agree they ramped up the sentiment. Pun purely intended for your viewing pleasure.

meggie28 wrote: Maybe not the gayest thing but it raises eyebrows in small towns. Someone on the writing staff had to have grown up in a small town and knows exactly what will get attention. A high school friend decided to take a dance class. (It's been over twenty years but...) Anyway, as soon as he signed up for the class his dad received a phone call at work, calling his son a few derogatory names. (His dad owned a restaurant in town.) In small towns word spreads fast. If it isn't football practice and cheap beer drinking it's suspect. And for the record, yep, my friend is gay but he hadn't come out at that time. Times were a bit tougher and I can't think of anyone who was actually out in my town back then. They all moved away first, just like the comment Kurt made about leaving their "cow town". |

But since then, it's been sort of a constant loop of "Rachel and Finn sing lead on a cheesy ballad with everyone swaying behind them". It's hard to root on. I think if they get back to more of the funny with the two of them, they'll be fine. I kind of liked them in this ep. As for Finn/Quinn, that's really not Cory's fault. It's not like there's really any way to like those two together. Who knows if they could generate chemistry if the writers gave them something to work with. |

I bet Rachel put someone up to calling Kurt's dad, b/c she's just that mean. Otherwise after all the outlandish things Kurt has done, they wait until
he has a Diva Off to call Kurt's dad?
Puh leez! |

I must know the full quote of Arties....
The fact that he starts it off with his debilitating accident at age 8 makes it that much more epic that he finishes with "but my penis still works." I will transcribe and get back to you! |

I thought the down syndrome focus was a little disturbing and OTT with her (Becky?) trying out for cheerleading. That's just how I felt about it.

meggie28 wrote:True but there's always the village idiot in a small town, the guy who shows up rather late to the game. Or the "Diva Off" brought it back into someone's thoughts. Some small town people will beat a dead horse until it's nothing but a pulpy mess on the ground. It doesn't make all that much sense yet I can see it happening. The kid's not affected by what others say so attack family members instead. It's just stupid small town mentality. (I was raised in a small town and chose to move to a different small town after having children. I'm not attempting to offend small town people but I know that's how some just are. |

The funny thing about the "but my penis still works" is that it really IS the one thing W/C bound guys get asked about the most. It was like he was
anticipating the question before she had the chance to ask it.
I loved it. Cool, horny Artie! |
