Cleofuss wrote: SUCH an interesting case; the sociological implications alone are staggering. The man was handsome before and now he just looks like the living dead. The party line may be "skin rejuvenation" yet this sort of major change is no accident. Word is that Sosa is so pleased with the results he may become a spokesperson for the skin product. The question is WHY??? Of course, it's none of our business yet as an admired public figure Sosa does indirectly influence his fans. Skin colour is a funny, complicated thing, especially in the developing world. A part of it is perhaps due to Western neo-imperialism and its subtle and not so subtle commercial denigration of ethnic beauty, but that gives cracker-ass crackers a little too much credit. The belief that lighter skin is more attractive and therefore desirable is deeply ingrained in the ethnic world. Sosa's from the Dominican Republic right? Such a hotbed of self-hate where African features such as darker skin, wide noses, kinky hair are openly regarded as unattractive. Asian countries prize light skin yet most think whitey is funny-looking. India's just plain fucked up when it comes to skin colour. Indeed, people with darker skin are regarded as products of a lesser race by those who are lighter skinned and therefore descendants of Indo-European Aryans. Clearly, these are prejudices that are thousands of years in the making. Ahhhh, skin colour and hair texture ---> any discussion of these hot topics is hardly exhaustive. It is a very personal choice to lighten one's skin or relax one's hair, yet the effects of such actions are far-reaching. Thank the gods my skin is perfectly golden and my hair beautifully sleek so I can sidestep all this drama and focus only on my various mental illnesses. I would love to see further discussion of these issues. Why, if I could start threads (FOAD FASCIST ADMENZ) I would start one on this very topic. |

Well, the error by Castillo would have been the final out in the game and was a routine popup he just didn't squeeze. The error by Aybar was in the first
inning and there was plenty of time for the Angels to come back from it. Blame the Angels silent bats for that loss, not Aybar's error. Castillo can solely
be blamed for the loss in the Mets-Yankees game as his 2 run error allowed the tying and walkoff run to score instead of ending the game.

Everyone remembers the Castillo muff because it came against the Yankees. Nobody remembers Delgado (yes, he did play early this year) doing the same against
the Fish, because it was well, the Fish.
But the Buffalo Bisons had half a season to recover from the Castillo muff to try to make the playoffs. Angels only had 8 innings to try to recover in a playoff game against the Yanks who made the Twins, the Angels as jittery as Madson gasping on the mound against Texieria with ARod on deck. |

Powers |

That's pretty weak. You can look a that Castillo muff and say it DIRECTLY cost them the game against their cross town rivals. THe game was won. It was
over. There was a weak popup to second and all he had to do was squeeze the ball to end the game.
The Angels would have lost the game even if he hadn't made the error seeing as the Yankees went on to score 4 runs in that game. The final score was a 4-1 Yankee victory instead of a theoretical 3-1 Yankee victory had the play never happened. |

Powers, postseason errors always take on more significance than regular season games. Always. Just the nature of the postseason beast.
And you can't use the argument everything would have happened exactly as it did if there was no error. |

I did not read that rule, debrun, especially in games in which the error has little to no impact on the final score. If the final was Yankees 11-1, would the
error have been as egregious?

Yay! Another satisfied customer.
So twisted, what say you...is a meaningless error in the first inning of a playoff game a bigger deal to you than Castillo's flob in the bottom of the ninth vs the Yankees that singlehandedly cost the Mets the game? |

what part of this don't you get?

I disagree.
The error made it 2-0 in the first. Seeing as the Angels scored one run the entire game, it was irrelevant as the Yankees went on to score enough runs to win the game outright. I'll repost my question...if the score had been 13-1 would you still be making a mountain out of it? |

lol @ you still arguing this point.
in regards to the whole Jeter GG situation- there really isn't a major difference between him and Aybar statistically which is why I don't have a problem with him winning the award. you can make a reasonable case for either player. therefore, saying that its 'laughable' that he won is pretty senseless so, obviously, the only reason you're whining about this is cause you have an extreme disdain for Jeter. Wright winning the GG last year? now that was ridiculous. |

Powers just needs to learn to support his arguments with better statistics. There's this thing called "UZR" y'know, and it's way better
than range factor.

Powers |

I actually don't mind Jeter, alol that you know anything about me. He always plays hard and I respect that. His defense, however, is deplorable, and given
his limited range he's not among the elite shortstops in the league. Everyone knows that. Sure, he can field balls hit two steps to the left of him and two
steps to the right of him, but what about fielding in the hole, up the middle, or making acrobatic plays? Not gonna happen. He's a minus fielder at this
stage in his career and even Yankee fans can admit it. Don't forget the fact that the Yanks now have a legit GG 1B in Teixiera, who successfully scooped
and stretched to convert errant throw after errant throw from Jeter all year.
I've yet to see anyone provide an argument more substantial than "powers you're dumb" to contradict that he deserved the GG over Aybar. |

RazorrzzEdge wrote:Then read this article...it supports my assertion that Jeter did not deserve the GG and uses lots of stats. I did not know how to stack some of the bigger name fielders and show them side by size for comparison's sake when it came to UZR as I did with the MLB webpage, so I went with that. I didnt know that sinking to the level of using range and similar fielding percentages was such a faux pas. |
