As best I recall, Pete was making about $4000 a year in the first or second season. Don was making about $45000 after a raise he negotiated with Roger. 100K
in 1963 was an astonishing amount.

Once he is dead and buried and Joan "mourns" for the appropriate period of time, she will be free to be with the true love of her life, Roger. It's only a matter of time before Roger gets rid of the brat he married. |

Yeah, if only his brat wife could join the Army too! Damn that 60's sexism.

They settled for partner. Peggy made no such demands. You have to ask for it people, especially when you find yourself in a position of power. |

They didn't agree to the Pete is a partner deal, per se, as I understood it. Afterall it was SCD+the British guy's last name, whatever it was, not
Pete's name.

Isn't there a difference between being a partner and a "named" partner?

TV MA LSV wrote:Pete also has seniority over Peggy. Pete was already an established employee of SC before Peggy started working as Don's secretary. Peggy has only been a copywriter for a couple of years. She's a rookie in the ad biz. They weren't going to make her a partner when she's still learning the business. Pete actually brought accounts with him. Peggy didn't. |

CatNamedRudy wrote:However, Pete & Peggy do totally different things. Pete is the schmoozer in charge of wining and dining accounts. Peggy is a copywriter and as of now the only copywriter. So, Peggy could end up in charge of the copywriting division once SCDP begins to grow. She'll always be subordinate to Pete and the partners, but she should be on the same level as Harry is in the media division. |

I don't know about anybody else, but that last episode means I will actually be watching next season. They've gotten so "very stylish with boring
plotlines" lately I just haven't enjoyed this season. Started getting a bit better and then...wow! THAT is how you end a season!

I wasn't saying that Peggy should have been mad a partner.
I just think that her loyalty and abilities rank a good promotion and advance in pay ... at least she deserves a lot more than nothing. |

I bet Peggy gets paid more than the guys (especially Pete) thinks. I think Don thinks of her as such an equal that when he said the hurtful things he did it
was just because that was how he would talk to a fellow dude.
Yay for January being on SNL right now. She looks so different in her non-Mad Men garb. |

Don was talking down to her because Hilton had him by the balls.

January was HORRIBLE on SNL!!!! She is one of those actors who is terrific on film and awful live. This was the only exception (as it was pre-filmed):

Thanks, Suit, for breaking it down for us. It sounded awful--this was slightly cute.

Yeah, JJ was really bad on SNL, not that I was expecting much. I've seen funny people who are horrible on SNL, and good actors who are also horrible on
SNL. The best hosts (when given good material) seem to have great comedic timing.

Depending on the place and what she is wearing, January can be very funny.
Its like that romantic scene on 30 Rock this week when Padma Lakshmi was having drinks with Jack Donaghy in front of a fireplace. "Men always tell me I'm very funny. Have you heard this one? Knock, knock." *Jack explodes in laughter* See? |

Wow, she was really bad on SNL last night. She appears to be absolutely lacking in any kind of range of expression.

I didn't see it, but I'm guessing either a) she was nervous, B) she can't do comedy or live sketch work, or c) she's been playing betty so long
she's stuck in being betty. (being betty, the new charlie kaufman film)
