I agree with whoever said this show's better than both Glee and Modern Family. It;s definitely more consistent than Glee and funnier and more clever than
Modern Family

i only compare the three shows because they're the "hot" new comedies. i enjoy glee but when i go into the thread it's as though people are
watching some FAR more hilarious and enormously entertaining version of the show than i see. the gleeks are kind of overdoing it with their slavish praise, and
i find it a bit off-putting. that show and Modern Family have some great writing and LOL moments, but they also cross over into sacharrine/afterschool special
preachy "lessons learned this episode" line too often for me to fall completely in love with them. admittedly, i think the sweetness is what makes
those shows more appealing to a wider audience than shows like arrested development could never be, but... that's why i prefer shows like arrested
development.

That's exactly how I feel when I come into this thread. I admit the Gleeks, of which I am one, tend to go overboard but that statement is like the pot calling the kettle black. Community is good but no where close to great, IMO. Different strokes I guess.

I think all three shows are great. But Community makes me laugh out loud the most.
It's definitely at the ridiculous/absurd end of the humor spectrum.
I mean, come on...

Glee just isn't my cup of tea. Hey, that rhymes.
Community, Modern Family and Parks and Recreation are my three "must see" shows on TV right now. |

SurvivorGuy24 wrote: This. Definitely the best comedies this season, which is a feat considering the competition from shows like The Office, HIMYM, and The Big Bang Theory, which are less consistently funny this season but still all solid shows. Fuck the haters, this is a great year for comedies. |

Jesus Christ, Carboy, we get it - this show doesn't meet your exacting standards. Can you move on, now?

I loved Troy's frustration at the Biblioteca rap of Troy & Abed of "The Community College Chronicles".

I am thoroughly entertained by Glee. I rarely find it LOL funny (Sue is go to for the LOLs), but it is a feel good musical-based comedy that I find very
entertaining. I agree that it is cheesy, but I enjoy cheesy goodness from time to time. I don't go OTT in praising it, but I really enjoy the show and it
is a great addition to my weekly TV watching.
Modern Family I have not fully gotten into yet. I've seen episodes here and there, but I haven't been watching religiously so I can't really form an opinion on it. The episodes I have seen were good and I find the characters likeable, but no LOL moments. Community, however, has me LOL'ing from start to finish. I really enjoy my comedy a bit sarcastic and dark and pushing the PC lines. This is why I find Community & The Office to 2 best sitcoms on television right now. It's just my kind of humor. There is something to be said about shows like Community/Office/Parks & Rec (and the cancelled Arrested Dev.) where, if it were the real world the characters would disgust me and I would find them totally unlikeable, yet on these shows I actually love them and find them hilarious. |

PinotEnvy wrote: this. I don't get this whole thinking pattern that many people seem to have, where they seem only capable of liking a character only IF the character has genuine real-world likeable characteristics. It is like they can't separate likeability level of a character from how that character actually contributes to the overall story. An example is in Heroes (1st season only, so probably not the best example....) where some people would be say that they like Sylar and would receive responses from others like "How can you like Sylar? He is a murderer!!1!!" |

it is the fact they are so outlandishly selfish that makes them so hilarious. They are made likeable by their comeuppance rather than actual qualities they have. Just see Seinfeld, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Arrested Development all revolving around fundamentally repulsive characters that you love and are just absolutely hilarious. Meanwhile sitcoms with a traditionally likeable protagonist are always made memorable by the one dimensional supporting characters because they are simply funnier. |

This weeks episode converted 5 non watchers into becoming followers. Sure, we were a little tipsy watching it, but this week's episode was hilarious.

I wasn't sure about this show at first. I'm beginning to absolutely love it! Abed's psychic abilities were great.
Nubber has always had a great sense of humor! You should hear the Beefcake jokes Nubber tells. |
