I feel Edgic will fail this season not becuase it doesnt work but because it is too rigid. There are many good guidelines but also it has not been updated to take account of Bob winnig or take into account the obvious winners trends of the merge episode. So Nalaie is not edgically viable based on Epi 1 and 2 but Mick is not a viable winner based on merge and post-merge episodes. What does this tell us? Russell H is the X Factor which comes along every now again and makes us question and eventualy rewrite the rules. I believe this season has seen a lot of firsts and Russell has already introduced new game play, a big character and strategy which the editors have had to take into account and led them to modify the edit pattern. Well Mick is viable regardless of his merge edit, but some people have made their own rules (which is PERFECTLY fine, seriously) and have placed a lot of weight on the merge. We'll see, based on who wins, the importance the merge episode has. I'm hoping (for my sake) that Mick wins, otherwise I'll definitely be confused about what edgic stands for! Gotta' keep hopin'

But simply taking this into consideration then Mick is not Edgically viable. Ok im new but Edgic means Editing and Logic right? So almost every winner in 18 seasons has not had thesame EDITING has Mick in the merge episode of UTR. LOGICALLY is that not correct to then throw up major red flags as to Mick credentials. He then follows that up with another UTR in post merge. Yet again EDITING wise never done before by a winner in 18 seasons. So LOGICALLY Mick cannot win. Edgic fails.

What I find even more interesting is that most of the posts are bashing Edgic and Mick. Hmmm!

Some people are oversimplifying it and taking it to the extreme; I don't think he's saying someone with a vis 1 on the chart deserves a vis 4. But the debate between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 is up in the air. Fact is, Mick and Monica had the same vis factor. But Monica was more prominent in the episode. Mick's sentences were in scenes that were not about him. For instance, he got a few in with the scene about Natalie, which had nothing to do with him. He was quiet, it was panned out, and there was no focus on him. It was on Natalie, and Jaison for commenting. Monica had a segment about herself, and an extended strategy scene with a closeup of her strategizing. Also, the method of calculating VF is subjective. I still don't understand why confessionals have to be subtitled in order to count as confessionals. It's not like people don't know who's talking. They don't include the name because it'd be redundant. Finally, like sceptica said, it is strictly quantifiable, and does not take into account quality or storyline. I have an example that compared Mick to Monica. But it does not take into acount SPV, which is huge. Nor does it take into account who's prominently being featured. These things combined allows some leeway in final ratings, and I always thought that was understood. But apparently people take it a lot more seriously than I thought?

Well take it as a compliment that Edgic is prob the most interesting thread for lurkers, well for me anyway. like i said it has lots of positives but needs a little updating but those who are used to thesame guidelines i guess are hostile towards change as they want to believe Edgic is perfect!

I just know you've never, Edgically, supported a winner. I also find it interesting that many others here, have never gotten the winner EXCEPT Parvati (one of our only female winners in a long while). I guess those people only get it right when an attractive brunette wins ;) In short, some people ONLY pick FEMALES as their Edgic contenders. I think that is interesting... I am a faithful viewer and I'm not even sure I could pick him out from a lineup - that should tell something about the normal(casual) viewer, now that the tribes have merged I recognize him more easily but only because he is around FF. I think after this many seasons edgic just gets harder because we have so many more types of winners to choose from. I really think that some rules may apply to male winners more than female winners. I'd really be interested to see any patterns in women vs men. Tina, V, Sandra, Jenna, Danni and Parvati, and of course Amber from all stars.

To show you how oddball it can be, my spouse, when asked by me who would win, said, "Oh, either Jaison or Mick..." Now, this is someone who is gently humorous about edgic, the sort of reaction one expects from those who simply don't GET IT but are indulgent of our little silly habits. I asked why. The response was: they're the only normal ones left that we know anything about. Well, okay then! I see your "who's Mick?" anecdote and raise you a "Mick and Jaison gonna win." LOL about this. Oh - the difference in edit between boy and girl winners? I've always sensed it exists, but it's darn hard to pin down. Are they afraid that editing a girl as assertive, dismissive of others, and strategic would make them too much like bitches? It would be great if someone like Natalie won, who has shown growth, some humor, and is surely edited as someone who has strategic chops. Yes, the latter was non-edgic.
