Just glad it was not hugh Jackman hosting. He is very milquetoast. Gave it the old college try, but his hosting was the least impressive thing, and the musical
number was dreadful. I need ot see Precious.

Did that girl in Precious audition for American Idol? She reminds me of one of those sad cases that did.

She looks like Ruben Studdard. Is that what you're thinking about?

It might be nice of someone on the last page put a spoiler tag around that bit about the final scene of "Precious." I really hope it didn't
spoil the movie for me.

The lead actress of Precious, Sidibe, is probably the third most likely to get a Best Actress nomination (Streep and Mulligan are the two in front of her).
The film currently has a score of 78 on metacritic and will no doubt be a Best Picture contender because of its acclaim and great box office. Nominations for screenplay and direction are also likely. |

As excited as I am for Precious, anyone else annoyed that there is pretty much NOTHING else even being talked about? I may just not be listening, but I've
heard little besides Precious. But then again, Slumdog hit big circa Christmas..

Sometimes it's good not to be the early frontrunner. I think Nine will make a big splash.

It's the same as Slumdog, really. I just pray that this is better. I saw Slumdog before the huge blast hit; but oy was I still disappointed.

I'm banking on NINE to win a slew of awards but that's just based on a quick preview I've seen, and the star power. Day-Lewis...are you kidding me?

I am likely in the minority: I was SO underwhelmed by Chicago. CZJ was by far the best thing about it.

I enjoyed it more on Broadway.

I think the main buzz about Precious is for Mo'Nique, and she's the reason it keeps coming up. Yeah it might get some or plenty of other nominations,
but it will likely lose most of the others, who knows that's all up in the air right now. But Mo'Nique man, people may get tired of hearing about
Precious and maybe she's being a diva not wanting to promote the movie or whatever, but she flat out deserves all kinds of awards for her performance
regardless. It's sort of like the transformation of Charlize Theron in Monster, but more intense and way more evil. She makes this absolute monster
believable and realistic and even human at times, and even though I knew she was in the movie I didn't even realize that was her for the first ten or
fifteen minutes, that's how deep into character she was.
I honestly didn't even know people were talking about her winning awards for this before I saw it (I hadn't read this thread recently until now), and after the movie was over one of the first things I said to my friend was that Mo'Nique needs to win all kinds of awards for her performance. I eventually thought about this thread and decided to post about it and then read back and saw others had already talked about it. Let me put it this way - I posted in this thread all last awards season and I don't think I was this certain of who should win - especially before even seeing the other performances - in any of the categories. I think this performance would've beat any of the other Best Supporting Actress winners in probably all of the last ten years if not more (I looked at the nominees for the last ten years and none struck me as better) - that's how good I think it was. Yeah I'm sure her performance won't be everyone's cup of tea and I'm sure there'll be plenty of people saying it wasn't all that or complaining about hearing too much about it between now and then, but I think most people that see it will agree it deserves to win awards. And that's what I got to say about that. :p
