Dave also gives a nod to the likely winner:

Jaison MORP3
This ep he's part of the positive group and a supporting role to Russell's OTTP episode. He has the role of praising and admiring Russell and Natalie. And takes an active part by telling Russ that they'd have to work to make sure the vote stays on him. Gets an active "Come on baby!" at TC (interesting). A P for his generosity toward Russ and Natalie, and the general P that all the Fiesty four get. Aitu part Deux.


John UTR2
Narrates the reward trip. Points out that looking for the idol isn't rocket science. But, in the end, joins his group in the TC blunder. Very low-key neutral.


Kelly UTR2
Gets some game talk! Looks like a very pretty girl. Goes home.


Laura MORN3
Continues as Russel's big nemesis. Gets lots of negative SPV from Russel and Shambo. It's Russel's big OTTP night, so her IC win is viewed as neutral-negative. Continues as the Galu wicked witch with her, "He's stirred up a whole lot of hell!" at the boot. The wicked lay minister. Ouch!


Mick UTR2
You want lots of isolated shots of Mick at key moments? They're there all right, but I was burned by Amanda's great isolation shots in China, so don't expect me to get too excited by them. Still, they are there.
The edit keeps him very much a part of the Positive Tribe.

Mick's quotes:
After Jaison tells him about Russell finding another idol, "...So, I'm excited to see what happens tonight at tribal council and we all hope to put a big dent in Galu today, and put a dent in that condescending, patronizing attitude that they have towards us."

At TC, "Absolutely. I mean, we know that. The numbers are obvious. But, we hope somebody will see past the former Galu- former Foa Foa and just see four solid votes and be like, 'I need to make a big move here!".


Monica MOR2
Told us of how the reward trip reminded her of Puerto Rico and family. We get to learn a little more about her. Gets to say, "Redonculous!"
Is the one who pushes hardest for being on guard for Russell having another idol. But, she gives in quickly to Dave's reasoning and gets on board the Overconfident Train. Showed her part of collective guilt and fear when Eric walks in.

Monica demonstrated some of Galu's "condescending, patronizing" attitude at TC:
"I think the Foa Foa see how strong we are at this point. If they're giving it a try, I give credit for that, but I don't think it's that hard of a try they're giving."


Natalie OTTP4

In the recap, Jeff gives Natalie all the credit for last week's blindside:
"Natalie's plan worked."..."Thanks to Natalie, Galu blindsided one of their own."

"Rock or stick?! Rock or stick?! ...Eat your snack. ...Oh this is pitiful!"
She opens the ep with her OTTP rat hunting and gets Jaison's praise for her growing from a Southern belle into Jungle Jane.

That she rated a 4 in visibility is surprising, because I remember little of her edit after the RC.
But she certainly got her dose of worthiness again this episode.



Russell H OTTP5

"The second immunity idol, I believe, is in the camp right now..."
Gets another "million dollars" quote.
Repeats, "Just look at the back of the piece." over and over, while watching Mick and Shambo lose to Laura. (It was weird how they seemed to suddenly forget how to play after building an untouchable lead on Laura.)
Jaison tells Russell, "You deserve this. You deserve this, man. For real!"

Russell pulls off a great blindside at TC. The Feisty Four are shown as very united.



Shambo CP4

Shambo has a very game episode with lots of game confessionals and game SPV from Kelly and Laura.

She tells us how she sees things unfolding and how she feels about Galu and Foa Foa. It's all complex character development. Her role as the big spoiler for Galu has arrived. She's suddenly thoughtful again and we're back inside her head.

She tells us, "Russ is probably the one guy in this game that I impeccably trust." Which has jury all over it.

My non-Edgic guess is that the story has told us that:

• Russ is a player, but his underestimation and disrespect for his tribe mates will get him before he can win.
• And that the "dumb girl" Natalie will do what she said and outlast Russell.
• Edgically, Natalie should fall short, because she has no opening story until she is part of the Dumb Girls' Alliance. That links her to Russ, but not necessarily to the end.
• Jaison has the whole package. But, I feel there were too many comments about quitting "the biggest mistake" of his life. SEG never forgets. But, he's a legit Edgic contender.
• Mick is now a complete Edgic dark horse. Maybe I'm over-thinking it, like I did with China, and rejecting the obvious Edgic winner for the "real, hidden" winner. I'll just have to wait and see.

flf, how can you give Russ OTTP instead of CPP when the entire episode is centered around what he needed to do to dig himself out of the hole he was in? It was also the first episode where he showed any kind of real doubt about his position in the game.

augustus, it's his second time of doubt. He was confused and paranoid in the previous episode, which caused him to use his first idol.

As for the OTT, I guess I've come to see Russ as an OTT character. I'd consider CPP if it came to a close call and I'd accept CPP if that's what the majority decides. There's no doubt he has a complex edit, but the visibility level is over the top, isn't it?

It reminds me of Jonathan in Cook Islands. He was so high-vis CP and Mister Confessional, it became his schtick. We counted him out of the running by, what?, mid-game?, because he was so complex and visible. But, he continued to get CP, so I concede.

FLF, is it because of the editing emphasis that you are highlighting Galu's 'mistake' so much?

Because, even if they had split their votes, the best they could have achieved would only have been a tie.

gr, it's the edit that sets Galu up to look like the bad guys. It had nothing to do with the viewer's tactical abilities while watching TC. It was the whole episode's leading up to the big play by the Foanians.

We get nothing but plucky, good-guy stuff from all the Foa Four. By TC we've been prepped for the big play. Galu's meeting on the beach has them gloating about their next big take-down and we are shown that they've made the wrong choice. Just to make sure we remember that Galu is a bunch of naughty kids, we see them cringe and look fearfully at Eric as he enters. We have Mick prep us about how condescending the naughty kids have been and we have Monica show us what he meant in her TC speech. We supposed to be "In your face!"-ing it with Eric.

I know some viewers will have personal favorites on Galu (coughMonicacough), but that doesn't change the fact that Galu has tons of subtle and not so subtle bad press.

So, yes, because of the editing emphasis... from episode2 onward. We've been prepped since Jeff's "Sunshine and rainbows" crack, that Galu (minus "hardworking" Shambo) is silly, lazy, vaguely undeserving of their good fortune, and mean to Shamsters and other furry creatures. They've been Dead Tribe Walking since ep2.

Another reason I think Russel wins, remember what he said in the first episode? He said he'd show us how easy it is to win this game, and he's been doing just that lately, he's showing us how easy it is to find a HII, and it's easy to take out a foe with a HII.

But, to make this conclusion requires forgetting all the ugly and dismissive comments that went along with all his moves.

Was he right that this is possibly the worst tribe in Survivor history?

Now, before someone starts tossing out wonky stats, just look at Jaison's move to target Eric; and Jeff's credit to Natalie for pulling that one off. They're not the worst tribe. They're the tribe pulling off great plays and showing worthiness out the Wazoo.

Russel's on top, now, for the same reason all of the Foa Four are on top. Look at their edits, they all are being shown as the can-do tribe. All Russel needs is one moment of nasty talk to bring back all the shit he's dumped on his tribe since day one.

And don't forget this scene with his dumb-ass puppet trash:...
