That was my dream job when I was younger, before I realized how long I'd have to go to school and how expensive school is. As it was I put myself through school debt free but saved up money and worked two jobs while attending school. I still managed a 3.8 gpa but by the time I graduated I wanted to sleep for a week but had to continue to work my jobs. Even with the jobs I was poor and people would leave gifts of clothing and such at my door. I also got invited to the homes of some of my teachers for dinner.
I didn't want to take out loans and have to work two jobs for the rest of my life to pay them back so when I started to get a further degree I would take one to two classes at a time depending on what I could afford. In MA the costs of even one class was horridly expensive and so I stopped while there and went back to school in NC in a different field but by then had kidlets and it was so hard to work, go to school, be wife, mom and all that so again I stopped. Now the schools are trying to say I have to retake so many of my classes I just can't work up any enthusiasm to start almost from scratch again. Man they sure can bleed you dry in the higher education world.
Anyway I'm still just a lowly nurse and I prefer to float then be stuck in politics of different units. I've no longer train to also do nursery and peds as my buddy that got me into those fields is at another facility. I also hate managing as no matter how gently you try to correct some behavior you get criers or screamers. As bad as that was, then you have the docs having shit fits over stupid crap too. OMG, just accept the correction and move along as for the doctors I'd love to slip them all lithium some days. If you can't find a chart just ask no need to have a raging fit in the hall. One day I'd love for one of the raging fools to keel over from a stroke.
I'd really like to get my NP, I'm no longer interested in informatics as I was several years ago but I think with an NP I could also work in infectious disease but unlikely as an Epidemiologist but in some capacity. But I'm really get too old to try and break into working with the CDC.
