It seems like who the majority of the gays root for/against is a big concern to some people. Laura, Tom, Terry, Cirie, Crystal... whoever. There's always someone bitching about it and turning it into some big personal issue, when in reality, it's some tv show person whose "political opinions" aren't even known to us. I have trouble understanding how rooting for Laura, or against Terry, or for Tom or against Tom is at all realted to someone's sexuality. Yet it's always brought back to that. "The gaes just don't like Terry because he's a conservative!" "They just root for the black girls because they were once oppressed!" "They don't like Tom because he's too manly!" I like Laura, yes, but I also rooted hardcore for Tom Westman and think he 100% embodies the ideal Survivor; a physical beast, a good social player and a provider. I also rooted for Jonathan Penner, Tyson, Brendan, Yul, Earl, Guatemala Jamie, Judd, Bobby Jon, and the list goes on. So these generalizations need to stop. How boring would this place be if everyone rooted for the same fucking person?? Ignore the trolls if they become a problem. Don't make threads about them giving them even more attention.

But what I mean to say is that gay people usually root for people within the same mold, usually strong women, petite cutesy women and mostly sassy black chicks. It's a generalization I know, but a fair one. But when you root against someone it's usually the conservative middled-aged people. Deny it all you want, but the track record proves it. Maybe not you personally, but most gaes. Then acusations of racism, sexism and homophobia starts, even if unfounded, simply for who they are. Exhbit A: The "Ruth Marie, who you runnin' from?" thread. Most jokes in that thread consisted of pictures of gay people, black people with Ruth Marie running away from them. Now, you can tell me it's all in clean fun all you want, but clearly if you read between the lines, people were basically saying, she's a southern housewife so she must be a racist/homophobic c.unt. Now we have Laura who for some reason gaes relate to, most likely because of her connections to the young innocent white chicks and her opposition to the sexist, ugly middle-aged douchebag, all of a sudden her beliefs are swept under the rug and a lot of you are coming out of the woodworks saying that a contestant's background has and never had an impact on how you judge them. THIS is where I call bull. That's basically all I'm saying. So maybe I'm wrong and you guys do give everyone a fair chance, but judging from the clear pattern in your favos and most hated castaways, you'll excuse me if I have my doubts.

If you're gay, chances are that Laura would not associate herself with you in the real world. She would consider herself to be superior to you and probably feel that you are destined for hell. So, if there are any gays who like who Laura is as a person, then they're weak and probably have low esteem issues on their value as humans (which is unfortunate--I would suggest counselling). That is, assuming Laura would treat gays that way. What if she's not like that? What if she's a Christian who recognizes that people live life the way they do and are willing to live peacefully amongst each other. Laura did say in her bio that she isn't one to preach on other people. Again, we don't know what Laura is like and how she would behave towards gay people. Thus, I don't think it's possible to know Laura on a personal. Depending on your assumption (or lack thereof) on her, liking Laura on a personal level is rather impossible unless you know her. We're only being shown edited Laura... ...so I think that it's OK for fans of Laura to like her if they are gay based on what we know of Laura. There should be no hypocrisy in liking the Laura we've seen on television, because we haven't been told of her gay values (although we can make assumptions, though these are merely assumptions). We don't know how Laura treats homosexuals (although she isn't a fan of Shambo... cough). So far, I don't think knowing what we do about Laura is reason enough to say that gays shouldn't like Laura. We can make assumptions, but until we actually know how Laura treats gay people to their face, there is no real legitimacy in this claim. My assumption is that the gays are liking TV Laura and not political Laura. I also am assuming that the gays wouldn't like Laura in real life because of her beliefs (which we haven't seen too much of on the show). I see where both sides are coming from, I just don't think that there is any definitive answer because a piece of the puzzle is missing: we don't know Laura.

Not everyone takes the time out of their lives to read 16/18/20 profiles of random fucks who revert to total irrelevance once their seasons end. In short, PLEASE stop talking out of your ass. Not all of us like Terry because he's a snobby douche, not because of whatever the fuck his political ideals might be. Seriously, this goes both ways. And let me say that even though I'm gay, I don't automatically root for any group EXCEPT the Laura types. I'm a huge Tracy fan, I'm also a big Debbie fan, Leslie was my pre-season favorite for China, I really liked Lisa in Vanuatu and I was rooting for Rita in Fiji. So yeah, for whatever reason, even though I'm gay, I have a predisposition for the more conservative MILF types, maybe because my hometown contains a LOT of women like these, so I feel comfortable rooting for them and I know plenty of people in my life that remind me of them. I also think they're an interesting archetype of Survivor players because they're usually surprisingly strong in challenges, strategic, silent leaders and they're MILFy. What's not to like?! And even though Laura fits my predisposition for MILF types, she's also a unique person and a unique player, and those are both big reasons I was immediately drawn to her. Like I said before, we don't know how she feels about gays and chances are we never will.
