Muggs, I don't find the video to be obscene or vulgar, but I find the choice of themes by the band to be in quite poor taste.


What's the primary purpose of a school's band at sporting events? I personally think that there should be two main objectives (this is how it used to be, at least):
- Provide good, quality halftime entertainment for all patrons attending the event
- Show support for your school


This halftime performance accomplished neither of those things. The sole intention of the two main themes in the performance (the "Girls Gone Wild" founder, and the 2007 game) was to 'dog' the hosts of the event... which subsequently belittled the majority of those in attendance, the home crowd fans. And, given that there would be many teen-aged kids at the game, you'd have to suspect that this performance, with it's rather lengthy 'GGW' theme, put a lot of parents into the unnecessary position of having to offer some form of explanation for the "Mom/Dad, what's "Girls Gone Wild"?" questions which surely came forth.

On the second point, the performance appeared to do nothing whatsoever to show support for Stanford. (The OSU marching band spelling out 'Ohio' comes to mind for me as an excellent example of showing support for your team / school.)


Yeah, I know - I suspect that my 'old fashioned' frame of reference here may generate a lot of 's from perhaps the majority of the readers of this thread, particularly the younger ones. I think it may actually serve as a pretty good example, though, of what many view as a clear distinction of mindset between the current youthful generation, and generations past, as to what passes as 'acceptable behavior' in social settings in today's society, and what does not.
