If the academy cares at all about its reputation, then they should know that giving an oscar to the 16 year old douche mulligan when SCREEN GODDESSES like:
Lauren Bacall, Greta Garbo, Angela Lansbury, GLENN FREAKIN CLOSE, Julianne Moore, Michelle Pfeiffer, Annete Bening & SIGOURNEY FREAKIN WEAVER have been
tragically overlooked over and over and over again would be quite ridiculously catastrophical!

They don't care about their reputation. That's why they're whoring themselves out for ratings by adding another 5 Best Picture nominees.

Salma really should have won for best unibrow. You are completely right, Blueberry.
Too bad I cannot find an online version. The Envelope, part of the LA Times, has a buzz thing. They have a list of all the probables in the various races, along with some long shots. Their thoughts are pretty fascinating. |

Sean Penn is the only American in the last 2 years out of the 8 major acting awards given out, who is American. I for one want a good old year where all four
are American and we get at least one "Goodie" (A Meryl or other fun good American actor)
A fun awards show: Best Actress: Meryl Streep Actor: Leo DiCaprio Sup. Actress: The main girl from Precious Sup. Actor: Mo'Nique |

And I don't see why everyone is so convinced the Precious girl is a lock for Best Actress. This is Ellen Page all over again. |

Why should Mariah Carey win or be nominated for anything for Precious? She did a'ight, but nothing special, I mean they'd be awarding her just for not
wearing make-up and looking frumpy if they did.
On the other hand, Sidibe would be deserving of a best actress nomination but maybe not the win, I'd have to see the other perfs first. And I liked Crash. I don't really think it deserved Best Picture though, but I don't think Slumdog Millionaire did either (and I liked it too). |

Crash was like an Afterschool Special on speed and rated R: Children, racism is a HUGE problem! Nobody could even be realistically racist in it, either. They
all had to say or do really hateful and OTT stuff. If they had even had ONE character who was just racist in the usual "No special favors for..."
way, I could have stomached it a bit more.

I saw Crash when it very first came out, when nobody was really talking about it. I really enjoyed it. Everyone else who I knew that saw it enjoyed it.
Then months and months later, here it gets a nom and then the win at the Oscars against the controversial favorite. Did it deserve the win? No. But, I also don't think it deserves the harsh criticism it gets because of being nominated and winning. And I'm not trying to point fingers at anyone in this thread, I also heard people in real life start criticizing it after it won and you guys are just reminding me of it. It's become a victim of its success. |
