Don't beat down on JJ. Can you blame her with the source of material she received?
I thought she was decent, but humor is not her strongest color. |

Interesting to go back and look at this premiere promo poster now that we've seen the whole season.

SuitSnob wrote: I think a lot of her poor showing had to do with the writing. One of her first skits was the farting skit. I couldn't believe they could devote an entire skit to the single (and extremely lame) joke that it was funny to hear her fart. It wasn't funny the first time and it was never funny. I'd love to know who wrote that skit. I could never understand how it got onto the show and how anyone thought it was funny at any point before it got on the air. AFAICT, this is the kind of skit that makes people want to gouge their eyes out after seeing it. But it wasn't her fault. I'm thinking the writers responsible were the same ones who wrote for Letterman during the time where he thought it funny to repeat the same unfunny joke many many times in the hope that it would soon become funny. It never did and it led to his looking like an imbecile.

If I ran SNL, I would have taken a very different approach to the show with January Jones as host.
My main goal would have been to celebrate having her as the host. She is one of the world's great beauties and a tremendous actor as well. IMO, it was a terrible mistake to try and have her appear as a comic or to place her into skits in which she was supposed to be funny - but the skits were not funny at all. Why was it a mistake? Because she could have always failed in the role of a comedian - and on that SNL show, she did fail. However, we know that she has tremendous acting talent and that she is a great beauty. So, why take chances on an unknown commodity (her comedic ability) when you have two sure winners? (her acting talent and her beauty). After all, in the first place, she is not a comedian. I would have tried to dress her up and use the makeup department so as to make her appear like a few of the world's all-time great beauties (e.g. Marilyn, Sophia, Gwynneth, Cameron, Charlize, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Naomi Watts, etc. Then I would find some ways to inject her character into the skits. As a fan, I would have loved to come away from that show with a recording of JJ looking like several of the world's great beauties. I can't speak for other fans, but that is about half the reason I recorded the SNL show in the first place. I was hoping to see her dressed up and looking beautiful. I don't know of any contemporary actress who can do that better than JJ. She can come across looking like Grace Kelly and does that effortlessly. As it stands, I didn't even want to waste the recording media and I just erased the SNL show from my PVR. So sad. The main idea is that the overall SNL show has to be funny - but not necessarily each individual actor. I might have tried to give her a few funny lines here and there. But I'd never have thrust her into the role of lead comedienne. That was just nuts. My point is that she doesn't have to be funny all the time in every skit. As a matter of fact, she could get away with demonstrating her acting chops and leaving the funny lines to the other cast members. She could have easily been appreciated just for her acting ability and her looks. She didn't need to appear in those skits. Especially since they turned out to be such clunkers. It really pissed me off. I think they wasted a great opportunity to create a fantastic show and instead, they wound up producing a real turkey.

Why is that site trying to push the "Betty's off the show" rumor so hard? Why in the world would one of the main stars, whose central to the
complexity of the show be let go?? And how the heck does he/she/it know the salary of each actor?

That fart joke almost seemed like something you would see on All That a dozen years ago. While I don't think she is suited to a live format SNL is a show that even when it was at it's best was always hit or miss most of the time. |

I don't know if there are many Mad Men fans watching Glee, but the woman who plays Sal's wife played a teenager last night on Glee. She barely looked
like the same actress!

The season 3 dvd is coming out March 23rd this year. Is that earlier than it has come out in the past? Would that mean season 4 will start any sooner? Anyone hear anything about premier dates?
