Aphasia generally refers to a few specific types of speech impairment, the most common being the incorrect substitution of words. They'll think
'tree' and instead say, 'car.' It happens with brain injuries and dementia. It doesn't mean you can't speak, period, in this day and
age. I seriously doubt the writers were making a reference to the original Greek or Latin root meaning of the word.

On Amber's twitter: I saw those hate tweets that were sent to her twitter and its so sad. She had to tweet that Mercedes is not a real character and that she was very close to quitting twitter; thanks to the hate tweets. |

Often due to strokes, indeed.

I once worked in a Speech/Language Clinic with plenty of Speech Therapists on staff and occasionally I would encounter an Aphasic at reception. Even as someone
who had very little experience in the area I knew that they were able to speak, but had extreme difficulty in speaking. Most of them were stroke victims. In
their minds they knew what they wanted to say but their brains could not transmit it to their mouths or summat. That's how it was was explained to me
anyway. It must be extremely frustrating to be an Aphasic, or to have parents dumb enough to name you Aphasia for that matter!

cginspace wrote:As have I, and it most certainly is exxagerated and by proxy, uneven in the sense of story being told. Not to verge too far off Glee, but take something like Altman's "The Player". At one moment you have Bruce Willis saving Julia Roberts from a gas chamber on screen as Movie execs watch on in utter awe of what they are seeing (satire), when just an hour before one of those same movie execs is brutually and viciously murdering a man. Those elements are certainly not on the same level. Glee does the exact same thing. The show is certainly satirical (we agree on that) and is not meant to be balanced! It is pretty clear to me Murphy has crafted the show like this on purpose. |

The only two that deserve emmy consideration are Lynch and Colfer.

I agree Murphy crafts it this way on purpose. And I think he nearly pulls the whole thing down because he can't seem to keep a proper flow. The Player is
balanced. It most certainly IS balanced. You never see Tim Robbins suddenly having a ten minute scene in which he has to admit to somebody that he is a killer,
starts to feel guilt and remorse, and we feel for him. Satire is about pointing out problems in the human condition through humor, while PATHOS and DRAMA are
about pointing the same things out through emotion (though good satire CAN have some emotion, in darts).
Satire IS balanced. IT has flow. It goes to uneven places, but balances them out. Glee goes from one to the other with no real rhythm... and goes to a very deep human emotion (which most satire does not do at all, these days), then STAYS there (the satire that DOES go into the melancholy goes QUICKLY, because satire is supposed to be light, clean and quick in its thrusts). As for anything being done by proxy... look up the word, please, before you try using it again. |

Yippee I just got the Glee soundtrack from Target! I'm loving it so far, and Lea Michele (or RACHEL, in keeping with thread policy) is a powerhouse. I love
the diva-esque quality of her voice, and you can just HEAR her confidence. She's amazing. Finn's voice sucks in comparison, but he's a cutie pie
and he sells the role, so who cares?
I laughed my butt off when I heard the line about the kid named Aphasia. OMG this show is genius! I can't wait until next week when New Directions sings with the deaf choir, and I cry so hard I get the dry heaves. |

Dry heaves? I thought I cried too much.
This episode pissed me off. I felt bad for Finn, and I love Kurt, and thew Rachel/Will stuff was funny, but I'm sick of the "Poor Quinn, she fucked her boyfriend's best friend (but not him) and is now lying about who the baby daddy is but it's okay because she chose Finn to be the father" bullshit. She chose Puck to be the father when she fucked him. You don't get to just "decide" who's going to be your baby daddy after your pregnant, and I fucking hated that shit they had Mercedes say. Not to mention Quinn is now going to be taking advantage of not only Finn, but his loving mother. Fuck that storyline.Amen sista. About YUKU - I have had problems with yuku and not just on Wednesdays. It's fucking annoying. This thread is the biggest bitch for me to view and if I'm lucky enough to open the thread I can't reply from the last page. I have to go back a page and reply from there. |

While in town, they took advantage of some of the local entertainment, including Holly Madison's burlesque revue Peepshow. "It was just some beautiful women taking off their clothes," Morrison says. "Never a bad thing in my book."

Ryan Murphy has tonal issues. He did in Popular. He did in Nip Tuck. He did in Running With Scissors. If you are watching a Ryan Murphy show expect melodrama
to farce with every single tone in between flying all around the screen. That's just how it is. If it really bugs you, wait 20 years for the next
successful musical show (if one considers 'Fame' successful).
