Can they just give this season's fan favorite to Carla, especially since she didn't win last season?
There's no one this season who is likeable or memorable enough to warrant fan favorite really. |

Carla: For those of you who don't like to make your own crust: Why not? ::scowl::
Loved that. |

LOLABINGO wrote:They had four hours to prepare every component of their main protein dish, plus two elaborate & intricate side dishes/garnishes. That's not that much time when they are in a new unfamiliar kitchen and they are doing all of the legwork, chopping, dicing, cooking, plating themselves. Kevin was the only one to be able to properly cook his protein, because he ignored the challenge guidelines, yet again, and did not prepare elaborate & intricate garnishes. |

Seriously? Which of those dishes looks "less intricate?"
Kevin did slice and add sauce at the table though, while that presentation has been praised by judges in the past, perhaps that isn't allowed at the competition? Intricate side dishes that taste as bad as the badly cooked protein don't cut it either, weren't many of those panned as well? I know that the "Mediterranean" theme was dismissed as a failure with cauliflower "cous cous" and that cucumber thing didn't taste good--but I didn't really focus on the side dishes while watching. I just remember that, while perhaps pretty, none seemed to wow anyone. Taste will always trump presentation, and I agree, I don't think Kevin's presentation looks any worse that the others, and frankly, none look that "intricate" to me. (Again, give them enough time for requirements like that!) When they spoke about baskets woven from vegetables at the real comp, I actually thought they might give these guys enough time to pull something like that off--but, alas, no. Frankly, I think we have seen "prettier" and more intricate stuff in regular challenges of the past. |

Look at the difference of KEvin's meat. It is just a piece of meat there, basically. The others used garnish WITH the meat. His layering was pretty much
the expected layering. Not a HUGE difference, but decidedly more simple.

Yes, he should have trickled some parsley puree on the edge.
BTW, it's the garnishes that were supposed to be intricate, not the meat. The meat had some sort of protein-in-a-protein requirement. |

I didn't see the ep but read Eli was eliminated because his meat was raw and inedible. Call me a food cretin but all of that red meat looks inedible to me.

The Quickfire was a protein-in-a-protein-in-a-protein.
And really, each of those plates has the meat standing off by itself, so I don't see how Kevin's is the only one not working the meat in WITH the garnish. |
