I don't think it's going to hold up in court even if they claim its part of the bill
What an asshat manager to think "we were really busy" is a good excuse to make people find their own silverware, get refills from the bar and wait an hour for food. Hire more help |

Gratuities are voluntary; they're gifts. I dunno how you can have a mandatory gratuity.

I waitressed for 10 yrs and I don't agree with set gratuities no matter what. Obviously the service was shitty because the waitress knew (or thought) she
was getting her tip no matter what.
And fuck off with the putting everything on one bill and splitting it equally - wtf is wrong with getting separate bills - that's part of the service too. |

Well, yeah, Spike, I waited tables until I was edukatud enuff to get what I guess could be called a "real job" ... I really do miss those
days, though. This job is boring and sucks and my co-workers are NOT people I'd want to party with afterward.
Anywho - Yeah ... sounds like the management are stupid and the waiter/waitress should have been fired and they should have been given free stuff, but, hey, people are dumb and don't know how to treat guests sometimes. Just never go back there. |

splitting bills is not done in nice restaurants. Maybe at the Red Lobster, but I dont know because I have never been. |

You fucking SPLIT THE BILL evenly. PERIOD. Someone at the table will have a cell phone that can do the math FOR YOU. I'm serious -- this is VILE behavior. Asking for separate checks forces YOUR miserly ways on the rest of the group. You create an immediate disconnect with your self-righteous and petty calculations. You are telling other people that they aren't worth a buck or two of your precious money, that you don't even think enough of them to donate a few pennies for their food. You draw all the attention to yourself and alienate everyone. Stay the fuck home with your children if you can't afford to go out with friends. I'm serious. Any fuckface who did this in my presence would never set foot in a restaurant with me ever again. Perhaps you were ignorant of what you are saying to your "friends." Well, now you know.
