Ok, let me preface this by noting that, logically Russell can win. And if he does, his rabbit-out-of the-hat preformance deserves do go down as the greatest in Survivor history.

However, as stated before, a Russell win would alos do more damage to classic Edgic theory than any other winner in history.

Classic Edgic theory is about winners being hidden by distractions, with ratings leaning toward the middle. Not too OTT, not too visible, not too negative.

Should Russell win, this form of story-telling is, uhmm... interesting. What it definitely doesn;t have is compatibility with Edgic. This wouldn't be tinkering around with one or two guidelines, being sufficiently flexible with them to understand where Rusell fitted in. This would be striking a blow against Edgic theory itself.

With Bob and Danni, you could see how flexibility allowed them to pass through Edgic almost unscathed. Especially if we used other story-telling tools at our disposal.
A win by Russell would afford us no such luxury. I recall the very interesting thread about Survivor Final 4 resembling family members. I recall reading that someone who was edited like an eccentric family member, like Russell, could never win Survivor. A Russell win would be as anathema to Edgic as it would be to that family-related theoretical framework.

If we are, for the sake of traditional Edgic theory, to hope for a win by anyone not named Russell, then the options are severely limited. In my humble opinion, there is no-one, other than Natalie, with an edit even remotely approaching adequacy. Apart from mere numbers, Natalie is the only person, other than Russell, to have addressed end-game strategy. She is the first one to have predicted how the season would unfold. She is the only one among the Foa Foans not to have complained about the conditions but, instead, has been portrayed as encouraging the others. And she is the one with the story that best fits Russell's demise. She is the best why Russell didn't win candidate.


In short, and with apologies to Mick;s apologists, right now, Natalie represents classic Edgic's best hope!
