Posts: 1164 (11/20/09 9:33 PM) Registered User Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Okay... so if anyone remembers, I was having crazy issues with a laptop with Win7 like a week ago. It would give me errors when trying to open Control Panel, My Computer, whatever.. I managed to fix that. But the crashing didn't stop. Basically, "Windows Explorer is Closing", "Windows is checking for a solution the problem", and "Windows Explorer is restarting" messages would pop up, and all my programs and the task bar would close for like 2 seconds and come back. Well I returned that laptop. I bought an Acer today... and it crashed like 5-10 times already. How is no one else experiencing these crashes?? Am I just crazy unlucky?? I'm kind of tiring of going back to the stores and looking at/buying/returning laptops... what the heck should I do?

If all else fails click 'Start'>'Run' type in: 'msconfig' click 'O.K.' in the general tab select, 'selective startup' and click on 'services' and startup items. go to 'services tab' click on: 'hide all microsoft services' then uncheck all of the boxes except your virus protection finally go to startup tab and uncheck all or any of the boxes in the exception of your virus protection .. (most items will be the ones you see in your tray area) click on the bottom where it says 'apply' answer 'yes' and it will prompt you to reboot

It doesn't close them usually.. it just brings up those messages and screen just goes to the desktop background and comes back 2 seconds later.

I don't know which processes are necessary or not. Ill try that other stuff though then.

I thought clearing up all that would have helped. And my CPU usage (through the CPU meter gadget) nears 100% sometimes 0o.. what is CPU usage anyways? Is it cause of the background programs/processes that Acer put on my comp?

It hogs more memory than any other app (it runs like 6 processes), and conflicts with pretty much everything. Ditch it, and make sure you ditch it completely. There are plenty of good freeware solutions for your antivirus needs, and if you're behind a router, there's no need for a software firewall (including that stupid Windows Firewall).
