I know there will be some flak and fall-out with the whole Brett/Laura connection but seriously remember Thailand, when they had like, what...12 Texans in
there? I mean WTH. It's as tho they cast people in there so they will have an instant bond with others, which doesn't seem to make it fair to the
outsiders. Too bad John and Jaison weren't on the same team.

I am very much looking forward to John's confessionals this coming week. Who is the strategic mastermind of Samoa? John is! I can't wait to see what he
tries for next. If he makes the final four though, good for him.

Congratulations, you just screwed your chances of winning the game!
Now here's your prize: Instead of getting booted at F5, you'll get booted at the F9/F8/F7 instead. Have fun! |

As I can't be bothered to read every single thread in this place, I'm curious why people think John made a "smart" move.
I get that he made a move based on self preservation but that can hardly be confused with "smart". Can some John fan come in here and defend his actions as intelligent, please? -SJ™ |

With Galu, John would have gone out in 5th barring an immunity run (and with Brett there, that would be fairly difficult), now he's given Russell incentive to align with him over the other Foa Foas (since the other Foas are all much more popular than Russell). John made a largely risky move to try to win the game instead of sitting back and letting the game happen around him, and whether it will pay off we will have to see, but John now has an angle to get to the end with Russell/Shambo, since Shambo is stupid and Russell is seriously short on goats to take. Once at the end, Shambo won't be getting any votes, but John could argue to win 5 votes. After all, Russell is still an evil asshole. John going out next would be a huge misplay for Russell unless Natalie, Jaison, or Mick does something to suddenly become hated. |

I'd get that logic if the line of thinking was "I am going to vote Laura out because Russell/Shamu/Myself all have a deal and know that to win this
game, we cannot bring along Mick, Jaison, Natalie or anybody that is already well liked within the jury".
However, what I saw was more "Oh, shit, my tribemates threw my name out there and didn't bother telling me anything about it. I've wanted to flip since we merged so here is my chance to justify that!" This is what I really have to wonder, was there more we weren't shown, some bit of logical thinking that included the endgame and who he wants to go there with or did he just cast a vote based on fear? -SJ™ |

I think John had to choose the better of two bad situations. If he stays with Galu and a Foa Foa picks the PROD, he basically hands the game to Laura. If a
Galu picks the PROD, he's in the minority and Foa Foa will say "You had your chance and blew it, buddy." And if HE draws the PROD, he goes home
looking like a moron with Laura snickering at him. As I see it, the only person who really benefitted from going to the Rocks was Laura, which is why she
looked so smug at TC.
John's repeatedly said that he's frustrated with his Galu tribemate's game play. Maybe he figures that with Foa Foa he at least has a chance to stick around long enough to be a swing vote after the other Galu are gone. It's got to be frustrating to try to work out strategy with brain trusts like Monica and Dave; or people who lay in hammocks like Brett. |

I think John made the best move he knew how to make after his name was brought up for a gamble. When Brett said he's bet his life on Nat going home, even
though JOHN's name would voted on 4 times, I understood why John bailed on Galu, and I'm still confused as to why he didn't smack the small lip
that Dave has on his face, or why he didn't ass-rape Brett.

Every move is a calculated risk, and it's hard to judge what John did without knowing for sure how things shake out in the next episode. The people who are
calling him an idiot are either butthurt Laura fans or just telegraphing what they've read in a different forum.

I think he was in a situation where he didn't have any good options. But sticking with Galu meant F5 at best. With Foa Foa, maybe he has a chance.

Gaulu is a comical example of group-think, IMHO. And John happened to realize this fact way too late (and when he was under the gun). But, I imagine that he
still has hope

The editors probably just didn't show it to use (maybe to make us think that Russell is the BEST PLAYAR EVAR!1!!1!11!! and that nobody else is playing this game except for Natalie, who plays for Russell). |

SuperJude wrote:It was a late sign for John, but the fact that his tribe mates were willing to throw out his name and without his permission was telling. It told him that he was on the bottom of the Gaulu totem pole, even though he thought he was in good with all of them. In fact, he may have even thought of himself as a leader of sorts, since they would all "run numbers" by him. Just flatter John on how smart he is and he is with you! John simply became Shambo #2 (prop guy leader), but less obviously so. So, realizing a bit late regarding his own place within his tribe, he can only hope to forge something better with the Foa Four. Little too little too late, obviously, for us viewers - but remember, the Foa Four are still trying to sell the fact that they are wide open and doing separate things. And, the Foa Four are still playing up the argument at TC that they are waiting for "someone" to realize it's an individual game and to come to them with peace beads. So this gives the guy even more hope that things could change in his favor. Unfortunately, I think John is the obvious one that will leave next. Foa will not want to be beholden to any promises on behalf of any Gaulu tribe member at this point after all of their pomposity. |

If John was so concerned about his spot in tribe, he still should've gone purple rock. If they win, Laura's best Foa Foa friend Natalie leaves. He can
let Foa get Pagonged until the numbers are better in his favor, and then he could flip with Shambo.
Now, he's totally at Foa's mercy. If he says one wrong thing to Shambo, she'll go hardcore to get him out. The remaining Galus will also want the traitor gone, and Russell and his Foas might not give much of a rat's ass and let everyone have their way. |
