'Idol' airplay: Kelly Clarkson has 'Gone' to Number One

Idol Chatter readers are probably used to Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone being at the top of the American Idol chart -- it's been there for six weeks, after all. But this week, it also takes the top slot on the Hot AC format chart, according to Mediabase.

In fact, the Hot AC chart seems to be where all the action is this week. Carrie Underwood's Cowboy Casanova, having previously topped USA TODAY's Country chart, now moves into the Hot AC top 40. And Kris Allen's Live Like We're Dying makes the Hot AC top 20, coming in at No. 19. Daughtry has two tracks, No Surprise and Life After You, on the chart.

Adam Lambert, on the other hand, doesn't fare so well there. His For Your Entertainment actually lost spins this past week and stayed at No. 48. On the Top 40 side, For Your Entertainment did gain a few spins, but it actually dropped a spot on the chart, from No. 65 to No. 66. Whataya Want From Me picked up the slack, as it debuted in the 90s in both formats, but the airplay for all his songs combined wouldn't have gotten him into the Idol-airplay top 30. For Your Entertainment stays at No. 39 for a second week. (For those who like to keep track of such things, Live Like We're Dying had 759 spins in its fourth week; For Your Entertainment and Whataya Want From Me have 590 combined.)

It continues to look a lot like Christmas on the Idol airplay charts. Seven holiday tracks hit our chart for the first time this year: Carrie Underwood's Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Kimberley Locke's We Need a Little Christmas and Jingle Bells, Clay Aiken's Hark the Herald Angels Sing/O Come, All Ye Faithful medley and Winter Wonderland, Kelly Clarkson's O Holy Night and David Archuleta's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

"Already Gone" is No. 16 on iTunes right now. :) Not too shabby for a single released in July. This is the kind of consistency that was greatly needed during the My December era.
