We traded our best player Bobby Abreu in 2006 for nothing more than some pine tar and everybody including then Gm Pat Gillick said we would not be competitive for another two years.
Then something unexpected happened. We started playing solid ball. The attitude changed. Right before our eyes we somehow became a goog and competent team.
The Mets were running away with the division and no way were we gonna catch them but we knew we were all of a sudden good.
Then came Jimmy Rollins infamous statement - "We are the team to beat"
What we knew then that the then arrogant Mets didn't was that we were just as good if not better. Doesn't mean squat unless we went out on the field and did it.
And we did.
In glorious and epically embarrasing fashion. (Twice i might add)
The problem was we were completely spent in overtaking them and faced off against the scorching hot Rockies and got smoked.
But we knew we had the real deal in town and proved it convincingly the next year.
Fast forward to last year and we came up two games short against a great roster despite not being 100% roster wise and two of our MVP's in Hamels and Lidge having complete dog shit years.
I'll take that progression as opposed to paying cash for a new Bently and driving it off the lot in five minutes
We're coming
AGAIN
Play ball!
