I just saw Precious with my family for Thanksgiving thinking it would be a sad movie but in the end it would be really happy and everything would be
okay/inspiring.
So not true. If Mo'Nique gets nominated, what clip could they possibly show that doesn't have her saying mothafucka or fuckin bitch? She was amazing though! |

That striptease portion with Clive Owen was excellent. CALL ME ALICE. She played a very complex character and I think she pulled it off so well. |

I just watched Star Trek and Up again today. They remain my favorite movies of the year, and there isn't anything coming out that I'm even remotely
looking forward to except Nine (only due to DDL). Maybe I'm finally at that point where the Academy Awards no longer appeal to me.

Just for my generation....20-30 year olds there is not that much stock in the Oscars. They don't mean anything. Maybe I'm wrong but people used to win
the Award and then either drift into obsecurity or not do any shitty movies to ruin their rep.
Jennifer Hudson - Dreamgirls to Sex and the City Halle Berry - Monsters Ball to Catwomen and X Men and some Oprah made for TV movie Reese Witherspoon - Walk the Line to Four Christmases Nicole Kidman - The Hours to bewitched and The Stepford Wives Idk it just feels like a "blip" in their careers. I know a checks a check but jeez |

Saw An Education today and loved the lead actress, who supposedly is a shoo-in. Alfred Molina will get nominated, too.

Jennifer Hudson is going to play Winnie Mandela. She wouldn't have been offered the part wihiut her Oscar win, I am sure.
Hillary Swank won a statue and that led to a second one. Marion Cotillard won an Oscar and that led to a career in Hollywood (she's French). This list could go on and on. The notion that an Oscar doesn't help and inhibits a career is pure lunacy.

It's the De Niros I worry about more. It is harder to get great parts if you are a female in Hollywood.

To be fair, quality projects (especially multiple quality projects) are hard to come by for anyone who isn't named "Johnny Depp."

Blueberry wrote: Wait...you're kidding. Right? Here: Jennifer Hudson to play Winnie Mandela in biopic Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson is to play Winnie Mandela in a biopic of the controversial ex-wife of South Africa's first black president. By Nick Allen in Los Angeles Published: 12:09AM GMT 19 Nov 2009 Hudson, a former American idol contestant, won a best supporting actress Oscar in 2007 for her performance in the musical "Dreamgirls". "I was compelled and moved when I read the script," she told Daily Variety. "Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I'm honoured to be the actress to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told." The film will be directed by South African film-maker Darrell J Roodt, whose films include "Cry, The Beloved Country" and "Sarafina". His film Yesterday was the country's nominee for best foreign film at the 2006 Oscars. Hudson, a former American Idol contestant who won her Oscar for a bravura supporting turn in the musical Dreamgirls, will take the lead role and is also expected to sing the theme song. Winnie Mandela rose to prominence during the apartheid era. In the absence of her husband she became an increasingly powerful figure in the African National Congress and vigorously campaigned for his release. He spent 27 years in jail and was released in 1990. Their marriage fell apart a few years later. Winnie Mandela's image was later tarnished by a series of scandals including her links to the kidnap and murder of a young activist and a 2003 conviction for fraud. The film will be shot in South Africa, including Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent much of his captivity.
