Season 2 seemed generally really unimpressive in terms of food wise. I felt that the contestants were really weak. The fact that Betty actually made it to the final 7 (and was actually considered to be a contender) and Michael to the final 6 says how weak that season was.


I don't understand why people keep on saying that Stephanie won, because "they needed a female winner." It was pretty much a toss up between her and Richard. She won just as many elimination challenges as Richard heading into the finale. Interesting note about Stephanie is that she is the only contestant (that made it to the finals), that was always at the judges table (high or low). It pretty much came down to how was going to choke and who wasn't. Richard choked (Lisa did better than him). and Stephanie made great food at the end, and that's what counted. I also love Stephanie because of her making fun of Casey's onion chopping skills.

Hosea's win sucked. What kind of pissed me off, was that the dishes he made at the finale, looked nothing like past dishes he had made. It just looked like Richard's dishes.

I actually heard somewhere that the judges HATED last season. They said it was the worst batch of contestants yet and that it was clear the producers picked the cast based on personality and not cooking skill. Supposedly the judges said they would walk if the chefs did not get better, and the producers took them seriously (thus, this batch).

Remember the "all your food sucks, you're not even trying, did you think you'd win the competition with a deviled egg?" speech by Tom? They were so disappointed in everyone that they didn't boot anyone that show.

I think what was frustrating in season 5, was that everyone made the same dishes over and over again. No one was really going out of their comfort zones.

The blind tasting elimination challenge (the one when Eugene and Melissa got eliminated) was so hilarious, because you could easily tell who made what. Virtually everyone was so predictable.

A dish with bacon and potatoes? Hosea
A dish that took no work at all (raw fish tacos)? Melissa
A dish with fish and daikon stirfried? Eugene
A dish with saurkreut and dumplings? Stefan

A dish with numerous ingredients? Jeff

By process of elimination, Leah was easy to identify as well-the fried fish.

The only two I had a hard time predicting was Carla making a risotto (I thought she would do a comfort food) and Arianne grilling a skate, which really surprised me. I thought Arianne would just make a piece of toast.
