I'm just not sure something that takes four years can qualify as a regimen. I'm guessing there was some up and down going on there. Perhaps the holiday
free-pass was at play. At 5 9 I hover between 145 and 150. Are you suggestng I can gain 40 pounds and still be healthy? Cuz I can assure you I would be fat.
I'm a small-framed person, however.

I'm 6 foot and weigh 180 ish and I am just fine. If I weighed 145 I'd look like all the other anorexic men that show up at TBL finale. I am not small
framed though. I would say losing 50 pounds does qualify as a regimen. It's certainly better than losing 100 pounds on TBL over 5 months and then going
back to a normal, realistic, real world setting.

He was definately at his peak on season 3. Everything from there has been downhill, especially the bulging vein.

Kim's hands are manlier than Bob's.
The WATN was pretty blah. It certainly didn't seem like they showed over 40 people in that two hours when that one guy who did the Ironman must have gotten 20 minutes alone. Also, was the winner who gained all of the weight back Bob's one winner? Great job, Bob. |

Which winner who gained all the weight back? Erik was Bob's. Matt was Jill's.
Oh and by the way retards, Matt reminded me of the fatties on day one when he was doing the Ironman because of his man boobs and gigantic beer gut jiggling around while running not because he was tired after exercising. Duh. He is no success story. He's an ugly disgusting fat pig and should be properly chastised for it. HE didn't have a baby. His wife is doing a million times better than him after having TWO babies. Instead of spending so much time on this tub of lard, they should have shown Kai and Poppi because they are TRUE success stories. |

The main point of the article was that there are remarkably few randomized prospective longitudinal studies of weight loss and what studies do exist all have methodological flaws. The focuse is on diet-only weight loss, which apparently does not work. Only significant lifestyle changes that include extensive daily exercise makes a difference, which is why so many of the people we saw on the show had become trainers, I'm sure. The ones who tried to fit an hour and a half of exercise into their regular daily lives weren't able to keep it up. The article is open access: http://mann.bol.ucla.edu/...s/Diets_don%27t_work.pdf The 83% was cherry picked from one part of the article. However, the overall conclusion for diet-only was even bleaker.
So, my point was these people aren't thin, but if they managed to stay thinner for a number of years, they still beat the odds. ETA: and aside from emphasizing moving lard asses off the couch, I completely agree that BL teaches a delusion of what weight loss is. Magic wand and I'm a model in 9 weeks. Weight loss in a totally alien environment. My favorite moment was whoever it was that had Jillian's voice coming out of her treadmill.

Carboys Desire wrote: I see what you mean, and yeah, I totally see your point. Four years doesn't necessarily qualify as a "regimen", but I was someone who was called a "fatass" because I was always the fat kid growing up. I guess in the larger scheme of things, losing 50 pounds over 4 years is nothing to brag about, but I'm proud of that and the psychological effects of steadily losing this weight have been huge. I am 5'10" so I obviously can't lose a ton more weight and be down to the 130's, but I just tried to be healthier, get a little more exercise in, and while it's been slow and steady, I haven't gone back to my highest weight when I started at 250 in high school. |

"Where are They Now" was an epic fail. How in the hell did Mike gain so much weight so fast? Didn't he weigh in at 185 at the finale? He gained 45 pounds awfully fast! To focus on so many that gained (significant) weight back sure didn't put out a positive message. |
