23. Clarence Black

Clarence Black was such a strange character. He started out ridiculously unlikable by taking an extra cherry. Then, Diane set up him for the fall with the whole beans incident. Tom really disliked him, hopefully not because he was black, and he was the decoy boot in every Boron tribal council. Tom actually sent him warning votes at the first two tribal councils. Eventually, though, Clarence started to grow on me. He really wanted to fit in with the rest of the tribe, and he did everything he could to make up for his mistakes. It worked out, as the others started respecting him more, and, even though the rest of the tribe turned on him at the merge, it was not because of dislike. Lex, specifically, had a mutual respect for Clarence, and he let him know that he was going. We later found out that he did this with everyone, but, as far as I remember, Clarence was the first one he told on camera. Clarence wasn't a complete strategic dud, and he wasn't going to go just let them vote him out. He didn't end up getting the numbers, as all the Samburu's were happy to stay alive, and every Boron was under Lex's spell. He did manage to get one person, Teresa, on to his side to stack votes against the man he thought betrayed him because of their rock, paper, scissors, deal at the immunity challenge. That led to one of the most entertaining episodes in Survivor history.

Clarence had many more moments. One thing I remember clearly because of how funny it was, is that Clarence wore tighty whities. Clarence also happens to be a huge, strong, African American man. I remember at the SOS immunity challenge, I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that this enormous black guy was running around in them. Yes, I thought that was funnier than Tom's feather. Probably because of immaturity, but I don't care. Also, I thought it was hysterical that after Clarence gave Teresa immunity at the final 10, he went over to eat the great amount of food Jeff offered the two of them hours ago by himself. We literally watched every member of the new tribe celebrate that Clarence didn't win immunity, then they cut to him performing his favorite task, eating.

Clarence's greatest accomplishment is threatening a chicken. I really don't know how to describe the epicness of the entire scene, but if you havn't seen it, go watch it. NuBoron won chickens as a reward, and Clarence loved to eat. Obviously, that meant he wanted to eat the chickens as soon as possible. The rest of the tribe wanted to wait to see if the chickens were going to lay any eggs, but Clarence didn't think they would. He made a deal with Kim J. that if they lay an egg by the morning, he wouldn't kill one. If they didn't, they were breakfast. As luck would have it, an egg was laid, and the rest of the tribe mocked Clarence mercilessly while waiting for him to wake up to see his reaction. That reaction was priceless. Pure gold.

Clarence was also the one person who was relatively nice to Silas. I despised Silas with a passion during Africa, but I didn't hate him during the one scene where Clarence and Silas are discussing past votes. Why? Because of the way Clarence handled himself and talked to others. Unlike Silas, he was just a good guy.
