Their feet can't touch the ground or leave the platform. Every couple of minutes, they have to grip the rope one notch lower till their bodies become more and more perpendicular to the vertical pole. Don't over-analyse the appearance of the advantage. Its probably just a scroll which says "stay one notch above the rest" or something like that.
