This season has been a huge struggle for Dexter as a character and a show. I'm not underwhelmed by the whole thing though. I'll keep watching.

Maybe tptb are trying to show that it isn't easy being a serial killer - even if you are killing bad people (which is debatable to some).

I don't think any of us thought it would be easy to be a serial killer.

I think that they should only continue the show if there are more books released. Sorta in the same way James Bond is adapted into movies. They should follow
the original intention of the storyline.

I certainly don't want the tv series to head the way of the books, all supernatural and shit, with Dexter being possessed by a fucking ancient demon. The television series is far superior to the novels. |

The only thing that the books offered which MIGHT be intriguing to see on screen is

Deb has some serious daddy issues - from her jealousy that Harry spent more time with Dexter than with her, to the need to honor her dad by being a good detective, to her issues with men (especially the fact that her one true connection was with Lundy). It would follow that she'd try to find a way to bring him down a notch in her own mind. |

I have a theory....dispute all you want but the promos are talking about a big twist last in the last episode this season. I have a theory that Arthur is
Dexters biological father
Im going with this because Dexter hesitated killing him....I think there might be some biological instinct in him to know him more. Dexter found out about his cycle starting with an abducted boy.....all of Arthurs actions have dealt with traumatic things in his life ie. his sisters death, his mothers suicide etc...and him repeating these things in his kills....what if him abducting the boys has to do with his own son, Dexter, being taken from him His kills started in Miami 30 years earlier....which was close to the time Dexter was taken in by Harry in Miami the only thing that really counteracts this theory for me is that Arthur kidnaps 10 year olds and Dexter was 4 or so when he was found wasnt he? The fact that he calls the kidnapped boys Arther may not apply to himself. Maybe Dexters real name was Arthur as well, named after his father. Thoughts? |

I thought Dexter's biological father was Harry. Harry had the affair with Dex's mom....

No. There were 2 or 3 episodes that dealt with Dexters parentage in the first season, including a DNA test

For it to be a shocker I would think they do have to either introduce a relationship that wasn't previously known ( and there aren't many combinations left ) or have someone do something out of character. I would guess there would be a killing involved by an unsuspected party and perhaps Dex is called in to use his 'evidence removal' skills? Batista kills Laguerta ( Or visa versa ) ? Rita offs the handy neighbor ( But that would lead to orphan kids and bad karma ). Quinn goes to the dark(er) side? |

I see this season like Moby Dick. Dexter is Ahab & Trinity is his white whale. He's become obsessed with him and that has distracted him from
everything else, including other kills

I think the big twist is Arthur is going to kill Rita. Maybe he will go after the kids to hurt Dexter but Rita will die in some collateral damage scenario.
Or perhaps this is wishful thinking. |

Maybe Dex will catch Rita in bed with the neighbor and he'll kill them both. Wishful thinking again.
