A CD that came out 9 months ago is not going to get the shelf space that new releases get. Those holiday releases that are IN YOUR FACE when you walk in the store are the ones that will do big numbers. But trolls know that,don't they?

Just ignore the pig. It's favorite "singer" is Avril Lavigne. That should set off a few alarms right there. I'M CANADIAN and I'm embarrassed for Avril...

Really? Avril was a poser who couldn't even sing. Whatever happened to her? Did she fall off earth?

AIEW hasn't even been under the C's a mere one month after release. I see an occasional Breakaway and even Thankful though.

It would be nice to see how Kelly would sell if she got a release close to black Friday. She's never gotten that while others get it every time. She's only had one Holiday release date and that was in December with Breakaway. Other than that she always gets a shitty release date and misses out on the holiday boost.

Selling 255k in the black hole of the first quarter was pretty damn good. Especially when you look at the numbers for this past week. Her sales were higher than all but one on freakin' black Friday week.

Classy original "Idol" a far cry from Lambert

It's been nearly eight years since a teary-eyed Kelly Clarkson took the stage as the winner of the first season of "American Idol" to perform "A Moment Like This."

It's been more than a week since a smoky-eyed Adam Lambert, Clarkson's antithesis, took the stage of the American Music Awards for his controversial performance.

The contrast between the show's first winner and its most recent runner-up highlights a TV program with a constantly changing legacy.

Sha'vonne Williams, lead singer of local band The Vibe, auditioned for "Idol" in 2007 and says the show has taken a turn.

"I think when Kelly first got on the show it was a legitimate competition," she says. "Now it's just another 'reality show' that seems preplanned."

After nearly 10 seasons of performers like Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry and oh yeah - even William Heung - we've arrived at an odd moment in AI history in which the present is no longer aligned with the past.

The innocence of a show on a mission to find the guy- or girl-next-door with the undeniable "X-factor" that will make them a star seems to no longer exist. Kris Allen, winner of season eight, fits nicely into the cookie-cutter mold, but sales for his debut album, released last week, reveal the worst "Idol" record-store performance in history.

As Kelly Clarkson finally approaches the borderland for her first show in Las Cruces, she appears to do so at the end of an era.

Clarkson arrives at the Pan Am Center on Thursday as part of her "All I Ever Wanted" tour to promote her fourth album since winning "American Idol."

Clarkson's music and persona resonate with the image that the show's creative directors intended. Her recent hits like "My Life Would Suck Without You" and "I Do Not Hook Up" are almost as pop-princess innocent as Britney in a schoolgirl uniform.

"Kelly is traditional pop music," Williams said. "Her sound is geared towards youth because it's very upbeat and positive. I'm sure if she had her own choice in music, though, it would be different. It looks like her history with the show has a hand in guiding her career."

It's well-documented that signing up for - and winning - "American Idol" results in signing away all creative rights to any career that might result, at least initially (just ask season one runner-up Justin Guarini). Clarkson herself even told People magazine that she knew their feature film, "From Justin to Kelly," would be a flop.

"I knew when I read the script it was going to be real, real bad, but when I won, I signed that piece of paper and I could not get out of it," she said.

Recently, though, the mold seems to have been broken. Enter Adam Lambert.

His debut performance at the American Music Awards was everything that an "Idol" performance has never been: overtly sexual, blatantly provocative and controversial.

"'American Idol' stars are normally down-home 'good' people," Williams says. "Now we have this guy who is controversial and throws his sexuality in our faces. He is proud of who is and he is getting a lot of attention from it."

When asked about Kris Allen, Williams responded "Who is that?"

While Kelly Clarkson may be among a dying Idol breed, her show is still sure to attract large crowds. Her most recent album was her second to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 and its lead single jumped from No. 97 to No. 1 in one week - an all-time record for the Billboard charts. It looks as though this "American Idol" veteran has staying power, no matter what direction the show takes from here.

I don't exactly think "Hot N Cold" and "You Belong With Me" are better vocal performances than "Already Gone," but whatever. "Already Gone" peaked too late.

I'm a little surprised by the Pop Vocal Album nomination without the Pop Female nod. She really doesn't have a shot (statistically, I believe the winner of that category has at least one other nomination, but I'm sure Kelly will be thrilled with the nod, regardless).
