Stephen King is writing a sequel to his cult classic "The Shining." "The Shining" was released in 1977 and was adapted into a Stanley Kubrick film in 1980, starring Jack Nicholson, Danny Lloyd, and Shelley Duvall. According to the Torontoist, the 62-year-old novelist was at the Canon Theater in Toronto last week, treating fans to a 15-minute reading from his new book, "Under the Dome." While there, King casually remarked about an idea that he began working on.
The second novel would center on Danny Torrance, the young boy from the original story with the gift of being able to communicate clairvoyantly with ghosts, and who is now an appropriately aged 40-year-old. All these years after being tormented by the spiritual inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel and his father's alcoholism/homicidal rage, Danny is now working at a hospice using his supernatural powers for palliative purposes. King even offered a tentative title: "Doctor Sleep". King also admitted that he is nervous about penning the sequel to one of his best known works, adding: http://www.filmofilia.com/2009/11/26/stephen-king-writing-the-shining-sequel/ |

My almost completely spoilerless review of Under the Dome:

Was there a character in Dome called the Lonely Boy or something?
Or am I thinking of another Stephen King novel? |

Finished The Stand last night. For that many pages I think a lot more action could have taken place, but all in all a pretty good read. Doesn't come up to
Shogun or Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow in my book, but that's mostly just personal preference.

Dammit King, don't you know that every time you write a new Dark Tower novel, I have to re-read the entire series ALL over again? Do you know how long that takes? How many lobstrosities do I need to dream about Steve? I miss Eddie tho, he was a hottie in my imagination, I should re-read the set (again). And I always wished that Clint Eastwood could be younger and play the part of Roland in the movie. Back when the book series came out, my sister and I had a complete cast of who should be in the movie.Crap, I finished the series and donated the books to the library. Now there's more, say it ain't so!! |

Will the plane be landing in an alternate reality free of war and strife? |

Okay, so are these new Dark Towers just comic books? If so, I feel cheated. I want real, Stephen King don't do anything for a couple of days, I have to
read this, BOOKS. Not comic books. BOOKS. Forty pages aren't going to last me 20 minutes.

So, I'm nearing the end of Duma Key. At which point should I stop reading?

If you've passed the art show already, stop when they get to the old well or whatever it was. You'll sprain your eyes they'll roll so hard. eta It couldn't have been a well - wherever the water hag's vessel is.

Citizen Postal wrote:My biggest problem with the ending of The Stand.. If Stu, Larry, Glenn, Ralph, The Judge and Dayna had just stayed in Boulder, Trashcan Man would still have brought the A bomb into Vegas, ending Flagg's plan and they would all still be alive. Stoopid God. |

But what set the bomb off was that demon feller making some zappy thing to kill the good guys that made it over there. Does that help at all?

I bought/finished Under the Dome a few weeks ago. I thought the pacing and everything was pretty good up until the last hundred-ish pages---if you've read
it, you know what I'm talking about. It just seemed a bit unnecessary.
My favorite part, however, was the villains; they were fantastically hateable, the main villain in particular. |

True that. So then, had the boys not traveled to Vegas, they all would have died a slow death from radiation poisoning?
I think the point was being an active participant in fighting evil. Mother Abigail would approve. |

King is asking people to vote on his official site for which project they'd like to see him tackle next - the new Dark Tower book or The Shining sequel.
I voted for The Shining. It's very close right now. Dark Tower is leading 51% to 49%. King also says he has a new book coming out next year, but no information has been revealed yet. |
