VD is alive and well. Only the name has changed. Today we speak of STDs.

See how STD just catches the eye? Far more flashy, if you ask me. Always go with a trio over a duo if you have the choice.




No one wants to say "venereal disease" anymore. Today's youth are too dumb to even know what "venereal" refers to, and too lazy to look it up.

But they have seen STD translated into "SEXUALLY transmitted disease."

Sexually. Whoa... They pay a little more attention to this. Not much, but a little.

Still, HIV takes center stage. The phrase most often used is: "HIV and other STDs," with "other STDs" being relegated to sub-par status.

Eh. Antibiotics take care of a goodly number of STDs. Stop the oozing of foul fluids, heal the lesions, you're good to go. And even if you have the herpes virus, commercials tell us that you can have a healthy sex life most of the time in between eruptions.

Anyone who comes out of a doctor's office with syphilis these days does so with a smile on his or her face. "Thank God. It's JUST syphilis!"

VD returns to the common vernacular around Valentine's Day every year, mostly used by 6th and 7th graders and OT posters who think it's just hysterical.

Also, crabs are not a venereal disease as such. They are simply a parasitic infestation.
