I have spoken. And LOL at the "literally one block walk to the strip." Yeah, a MILE LONG blazing desert heat block. ... You make it seem like a mile is far. How fat ARE you?

I stayed at Flamingo when I went to Vegas a few years back around this time of year (just as a fluke I discovered this is apparently the slowest and cheapest time generally for Vegas, which was kind of awesome). It really is a great location if you have some desire to check out what all the casinos on the strip have to offer as you can kind of break things down like say one day/night you check out Venetian/Mirage stuff to the north, or maybe you want to take a day/night checking out the southern most casinos like NYNY/MGM/Excalibur. And then very close you have Bellagio, Caesar's, Paris and whatever replaced the Aladdin that was there when I went and I found all those casinos very fun. I'm not sure if the OP is a woman or a man, but if you go to Vegas to shop then I'd definitely recommend staying somewhere more centrally located like Flamingo for that reason alone. (I, and my friends, only gambled for the free drinks). Also, maybe if I had stayed at somewhere else I would have something better to say about the strip monorail but the way things were it was just really annoying as it felt like it took us just as long to walk through Bally's to get on the monorail as it would have taken had we just walked on the strip sidewalk down to MGM from Bally's.

Sure, it's not the nicest place out there, but it's decent enough and will save you a lot of walking. My family and I stayed at the Monte Carlo, and while I liked it overall, it took a long time to walk anywhere. I didn't mind the walking so much as the heat- on day 1 and 2 I was fine, but on day 3 it wore me down. If you have to travel a distance, I'd take one of the buses; they were pretty cheap to ride on. I'd definitely recommend having breakfast at the Paris- they have great food and it's just a nice place overall. I also loved The Wynn, Mirage, MGM, and Caesar's. The light show downtown was pretty cool too. There was so much I didn't get to see on my first time, so I'll have to go back again. The shows were pretty pricey, so plan on bringing a lot of $$$$ if you want to see shows AND shop at the casinos. Edit: Wow, I can't type for shit. Last Edited By: Serenity 808 12/06/09 01:52 AM. Remove this ad The long walks to and from the monorail in most hotels are one of the reasons the monorail has been a flop. It's only good for longer rides, but then the only place worth visiting on a longer ride is the Convention Center. Another good bargain hotel in the Monte Carlo. The only problem with the Flamingo is the guests that stay there are older. Another great resource for Las Vegas is this site: $20 Trick - no it's not about Tiger's skanks, it tells you how you can often get your room greatly upgraded by tipping the front desk workers.

I read it was kind of far from everything, but I don't really care about walking or taxing or whatever. Is it better to call and ask for upgrades before you get there, or do it in person once you check-in? I was planning on using the "its our anniversary, anyway you can bump us up" route and hoping that works. I've never done the upgrade thing, but I'm young so hopefully they'll take pity on me.

Remove this ad Mandalay Bay is great for the rooms and amenities...who sleeps in Vegas anyway?? Just keep your clothes there and use the shower...the rest of the time KEEP MOVING!! Lots to see and do... Don't bother seeing Criss Angel, unless you just like one long boring commercial about CRISS ANGEL!! He did like three magic tricks and there was so much smoke and crap that I could have disappeared just as easily. Blue Man Group is a blast, tho, and any of the Cirque shows are worth the money. I also think that you could check out the Fremont Street Experience for some fun. Stay on the strip, though...close to the action.
