Sadly I think this is just a Survivor fact of life now. Remember in the early seasons when Probst and Burnett would do interviews and talk about how they were looking to fill certain character types? Well it seems like ever since Guatemala (or thereabouts) that one of the character types they specifically try to fill is "the invisible person". It's like they pick somebody before the season even starts who's going to be completely ignored by editing and just be "there". Sometimes that person comes out of nowhere and becomes visible towards the end of their run on the show (FvF Natalie, Tocantins Debbie to a lesser extent), sometimes they remain invisible no matter how they finish (Gabon Susie), and sometimes they only become visible when they're about to get the boot (Fiji Lilliana), but sure enough now there always seems to be somebody who's predetermined to just be in the background the whole time.

I miss the old days when you could make it to the merge episode and still believe that everybody left in the game actually stood an equal shot of winning the prize. Lately it seems like by episode 4 you could safely eliminate about 75% of the cast from contention just based on the transparent editing.

I have to disagree. Everyone in the pre-ASS seasons were featured to some extent. Even Darrah, Erinn and Zoe had a role in their seasons and some sort of story arch. At the very least they were featured in their boot episodes. Brett would be grateful at this point if he was featured as much as they were.

Ignoring some people started around Vanuatu where some of them got half the edit of the people I mentionned above. Then in Guatemala that's when you had people that were completely ignored (Brooke, Morgan...) and that trend has continued in every 18+ castaways season since.

I think it has to do with the "story" based editing. If you aren't relevant to whatever bullshit plot they make up, you're nothing. Notice how different the recaps to every episode are. Instead of describing what happened last episode, they now give a simplified overview of what's going on.

Yes it is fair that Brett Clouser only has 6 confessionals so far. Contestants that get a good deal of airtime fall into at least one of two categories. One category is to act like a cartoon character (eg. Coach, Shane, Randy, Rupert). The other critieria is to play a pivotal role in determining the outcome so that even if you are boring they have to show you (eg. Earl, Sugar, JT, Stephen). Russell and Shambo fall into both categories which is why they dominate in airtime. The editing turned that way starting around Pearl Islands (All Stars was an exception since it featured returning contestants most of whom dominated airtime during their original season}.
