Was THE BLIND SIDE really that good? Bullock's accent on every commercial made me laugh.

The Blindside as a film is problematic but Bullock is excellent.

Sandra Bullock made The Blind Side actually a decent film, despite its many many hangups. Without her I don't think I would have even liked it. But outside
of her the film deserves absolutely nothing.
Saw Up in the Air tonight, believe the buzz cause it is definitely one of the year's best, if not the best. I hope Anna Kendrick beats Monique and then goes on to star in a remake of Thelma & Louise with Carey Mulligan <3 Also a career best for Clooney, you don't expect to feel much for his character but you can't help it by the end. And Vera Farmiga plays smart & sexy better than anyone. I did enjoy the Star Trek reboot but I really really don't want to see it sneak into Best Pic. It is no Dark Knight. |

Saw "An Education" last night. I thought it was absolutely amazing. Mulligan gave the most charming performance I've seen in a long time, Emma
Thompson pwned in her small part, and the tie-ins to "Jane Eyre" were pretty cool too. The whole movie had a really nice arc to it, innocent at
first and much more nuanced later on.
"Up in the Air" will probably win Best Picture but I hope that "An Education" can sneak it to give it a good run for its money. And, disagreeing with someone a few pages back, I think this has been a great year for cinema. Oscar season is full of quality films, we had Star Trek, Up, and The Hurt Locker back in the summer, and several foreign films are doing great. Just looking at the list of potential Best Actress nominees is astounding-- so many great performances this year. |

Just got back from UP IN THE AIR. Absolutely fantastic. So, so good. Terrific writing, directing, acting. To be quite honest, I've never been a fan of
Clooney but I loved him in this, and Farmiga and Kendrick were so awesome. I give the edge to Farmiga though.

Wildcat612 wrote:I agree on this too...outside of the high-quality blockbusters last year in Wall-E & The Dark Knight it was a pretty meh year. See the rest of the "best movies" of 2008 for example - http://www.moviecitynews..../00scoreboard.htm. The top five were very good - though Slumdog is really forgettable - but then it falls off a cliff. Benjamin Button was complete & total ass (except Ms Blanchett), Rachel Getting Married was a joke, Frost/Nixon was paint-by-numbers biopic. And they're in the top 10? I love Coraline, Up in the Air, Adventureland, Drag Me to Hell, Sugar, Two Lovers, Ponyo, and Inglourious Basterds more than most of my favs from '08 |

The movies that are sure locks in my top 10 favorites this year - which means favorites, not necessarily the best, but just films that I think were both good
and very very entertaining - are (in no particular order): Drag Me To Hell, Harry Potter 6 (HP geek here), Inglourious Basterds, Up in the Air, Up, (500) Days
of Summer, Zombieland, and maybe I Love You Man. Other spots still open/being decided upon.

Lovely Bones contiues to divide the critics. It is at nearly 50% on Rottentomatoes, and it is even dividing critics who usually agree with one another. Am
pretty convinced it WON'T be my cup of tea. My favorite film of his was Heavenly Creatures; but I worry that, though similar in some respects, higher
budgets are not Jackson's best friend with smaller films.

I agree. LOVED Heavenly Creatures; though... The first LOTR I actually liked quite a bit. The next too were just too unwiledy for my taste. It began to look
like he was working on a great character, and then saw a new "toy," and said, "Hey, what's this shiny thing I can play with?" Glad to
know there are others who feel he needs a good editor.

LOVELY BONES and NINE finally debuting to such lukewarm notices is really paving the way for UP IN THE AIR to just sweep. Absolutely terrific film, don't
get me wrong, but I'm hoping for some real dark horses now. It almost seems like the buzz around PRECIOUS is fading -- is it just me?

There was way to much hype for the end result to be Mo'Nique screaming for 5 minutes and crying about breast milk. Anyone who has not seen it just watch
the preview and come up with your own story around it and it will be better than what it is in actuality.
Its really nothing great. If they win awards for this film it is just because Tyler Perry and Oprah are backing it...Why no Oscar noms (or wins) for Leo DiCaprio in Basketball Diaries, a NY teen with struggles and yada yada...at least that had a real point and story... Precious is just another "ok" movie. I didn't take anything away with me from watching it and from what I hear and from what I see here feelings are mutual. |

Feelings are mutual? The movie didn't take anything away with it from watching you?
