I don't own any of her music. I don't really love her and I don't hate her though. Just kinda meh either way.

Fantasia is love. She embodies the beautiful and the divine, as she is the avatar of primal femininity.

They do a nice job of showcasing your charisma and your ability to hold a glory note, but a successful artist has to have good original material. AI is all about doing effective covers. Now, if AI had a segment where you had to perform a song you wrote yourself, we might see a situation where they could figure out if these folks are really able to be pop stars. Also - the very nature of AI means that these folks are replaceable. They may get tons of exposure, but there's also a new crop each year, because most people like the SHOW more than they like the individual contestants. The hype is for the show, not for Kris Allen, who happened to win it because he was less weird than his extremely polarizing opponent. So how can he live up to that? More and more often, the winners really can't. Consider this: since wildly successful winner Carrie Underwood back four seasons ago, THREE of the winners have been disappointments: Taylor, Jordin, and Kris. (Maybe Cook's doing a little better, I'm not sure.) Possibly the expectations are unreasonable. |

I think Cook has sold nearly 1.5m albums.

Jordin? wtf. Her album sales suck but her singles have all been huge (okay, SOS kinda flopped on the Hot 100 but it did go #1 on the Dance Chart or something
like that).
Definitely not a flop. |

Jordin's debut CD went platinum after a slow start. Not a blockbuster, but definitely an step up from Taylor Hick's sales and not far behind
Cookie's. Plus when you factor in the overall industry drop in CD sales over the intervening years she sold as well as Reuben & Mantasia's debuts.
I don't think they were too disappointed.

Jordin's debut went platinum around the same time David's did if I recall correctly so yeah she had a slower start b/c his was Platinum a few months
after release, hers was over a year after. She started slow but she got some popular singles and built on that. I think both are doing well for their labels
and won't be dropped anytime soon.
I wonder if "Art of Love" is doing anything in the U.S. its a really good song she recorded with Guy Sebastian (OzI winner) recently for his debut album. I was hoping they'd release it in the U.S. b/c I think it would do well for both of them. |
