together. BBM isn't even near my top five of that year but it was still more deserving.

You Can Count On Me <3 also the movie that made me fall in love with Mark Ruffalo. I had already loved Linney from The Truman Show.
Sadly The Savages falls into that category as well, aka an awesome Laura Linney film that netted her an Oscar nom yet hardly anyone has actually seen it. Precious is dying in the race because it was ignored by NBR and it's not catching on with audiences like expected. Its theatrical run is already near-death. Rolling Stone's Top Ten btw: 1. Precious 2. Up in the Air 3. The Hurt Locker 4. An Education 5. Up 6. Where the Wild Things Are 7. A Serious Man 8. District 9 9. (500) Days of Summer 10. The Messenger  at District 9. If that gets nominated for Best Pic...there are no words.

Why is "Where the Wild Things Are" always in the lists? Didn't it get like bad reviews too? But I havent seen it though.
District 9 I think is a fun film but I don't think it should be nommed for Best Pic even if I liked it a lot. |

Crash and Brokeback Mountain were BOTH the worst of the nominees in 2005. Crash just a little better than Brokeback. Capote should have owned all of them,
although The Constant Gardener should have beat even that if only it had been nominated. And of course the criminally underrated C.R.A.Z.Y. that very few
people have even seen

I actually loved Brokeback. Still do. It was like a cinematic poem. Constant Gardener was my favorite film of the year. C.R.A.Z.Y. just never hit enough
theaters. Capote didn't really do it for me. It was kind of too stilted, though I loved Ms. Keener in it.

Also.. Why is "Where the Wild Things Are" always in the lists? Didn't it get like bad reviews too? But I havent seen it though. See it and you'll know why. Magic realism plus childhood imagination almost never fails. And it didn't here at all. |

Avatar has a few great reviews out already at rottentomatoes.com. I just wish I didn't laugh every time I saw the trailer. Hopefully, the 3-D makes it a
lot less cheesy.

People were more upset at this before Marisa proved herself as an accomplished stage star and a three-time Oscar nominated actress who is a fabulous god.dess and deserved a second Academy Award for her work in The Wrestler.I was really excited when she won because I loved her part in My Cousin Vinny. Even now, anytime that movie is on TV, I have to turn it on for the last half hour due to her. Comedic performances are seriously undervalued by the Academy and factored into some of the contempt for her win (along with everything else people mentioned). I'm glad she's at a point now where people see she's a great, deserving actress. I didn't love Brokeback (lots of beautiful scenery, great acting performances, great direction but didn't impact me much). I did think, though, that Heath should have won for his performance that year; that was the best part of the movie. Not to say the PSH isn't a great actor, but I thought Heath did a better job. In that respect, I didn't mind that he won for the Dark Knight. I think he probably would have won one eventually given his career trajectory. |

The final scene of Brokeback haunts me. I love how he never finishes the sentence, "Jack, I swear..."

Brokeback was just as bad as beating you over the head with their message. I always laugh when best picture shoo ins lose. I even found this loss funnier than
saving private ryans loss

How was Broekback a beat you over the head movie? What exactly was it supposedly beating meover the head with? To me it was the story of two people and the
damage they did to themselves and others. Crash was about every conceivable OTT form of racism there is, and even the "non-racist" had to show how
racist he truly is!

Brokeback was the story of two homosexual cowboys who chose not to be together because it wasn't acceptable. Boo fucking hoo. The ONLY reason that movie
got any recognition was because it was a gay love story.

I honestly didn't expect Avatar to get glowing reviews. I didn't even really want to watch it. But it looks to be positive at the moment.

It looks SO cheesy from the previews.
And the reason Brokeback got attention is that it was well-made and moved a lot of people, gay and straight. I had several female friends ask me to take them to see it a second or third time. |
