I was opposed to the Bush Stimuli as well because temporary fixes are not the answer. But at least his worked in the short term. Obama's has been a
phenomenal failure in the short term; the goal was saving and creating jobs and unemployment is way up from when the bill was signed. The long term effects
will be worse because some day we're going to have to pay for it. Or, more accurately, future generations will.
If you trust the government numbers that have been posted on recovery.gov, there have been 640,000 jobs saved or created (and no one believes those numbers, but let's pretend). If a third of the $787 billion has been spent that means that each job cost over $400,000. |

no? Bush sold the 2001 tax rebate as a means of stimulating the economy out of its doldrums
sounds like a stimulus to me |

What is your point cbr? Bush and Obama chose 2 different methods:
Bush - tax cuts Obama - massive increased spending Only thing they had in common was having a common majority party in Congress and dealing with a recession they inherited |

they both sucked is the point - I seriously don't think that the government can control the economy in the manner that they think they can - and that goes
for republicans and democrats
if McCain had won and congress was republican, I'm sure their methods would have been just as ineffective it's like trying to herd cats |

CBRetriever wrote:The tax rebate stimulus checks (28 billion dollars worth of $600 to $1200 checks to people who had filed taxes) was in January of 2008. I don't remember any rebates in 2001. edit: I found it, $300 to $600 checks in 2001. I wonder why I didn't get one of these.

no, there were two of them
http://edition.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/06/07/tax.primer/index.html the one in 2001 was sold as a tax cut with a rebate meant to stimulate the economy and I thought it was stupid at the time - kinda like going to your boss and saying: Sorry, you paid me too much last year, here's part of it back that money could have gone to reducing the deficit |

It was 38 billion dollars, not the trillions we're dealing in now.

still, the money could have been put to a better use
and I am not, and never have been in favor of bailing out the banks, Detroit or any part of the stimulus plans under Bush or Obama or that McCain was proposing - I seriously think/thought they all sucked |

sorry, I wasn't clearer in my post - I was talking about constructive things like repairing the rotting bridges, paying down the national debt, buying
armor for the troops, etc

There is no better use for taxes than returning it to the people who fucking earned it.
