I was invited to dinner at Brother J's house. I was requested to photograph his rug-rats for Christmas cards. OK, fine. Now I am told to BRING SLIPPERS because he's fanatical about no one wearing shoes in his house. I read a Miss Manners article that said this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. It indicates that you are putting your carpets ahead of your guests. Miss Manners says to "buy a rug cleaner and shut the motherfuck up." That's verbatim. Being called upon to perform a task as an honored guest and I must remove my shoes? Absurdity! Well, I'm all up in a huff. I needed something to whine about and now I've got it. Go ahead, tell me I'm rude and I'm wrong: Miss Manners is on my side.

Nor will they allow women to bring their totes/handbags/whatever past the threshold due to the potential of contamination from sitting on public floors. It's neurotic and rude ... but I roll with it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sometimes if people have had their floors recently refinished, they don't want them all scraped and cruddied.

From the front door to the kitchen on the vinyl liner they've installed. This is retarded and I refuse to play.

He loved that thing so much you weren't allowed to walk on it. No shoes, socks, slippers anything. Fucker was living in a studio apartment at the time too so we pretty much had about 4 square feet we could utilize when we went to visit him.

Maybe it's cause I live somewhere where it's winter 8 months of the year, but I don't get it.
