Laura Linney will get the Oscar someday, I'm not worried. She's gonna win another emmy/golden globe with her new Showtime series too.

Laura Linney reminds me of how I felt about Meryl Streep for a long time: She is a very good actress who just screams, "I am an actress!" I have
liked BOTH of them as they have gradually let loose and taken less serious roles that allow them to just be the character instead of being off-puttingly
precise.

And I had several friends over 60 who were in tears over the film because they had lived something very similar. Several friends. I suppose its strongest
"message" was about internalized homophobia and societal disapproval of gays; but it went further. More than the gay men suffered, and there were
some moments of real beauty and joy. As mentioned, I had several straight female friends who saw it repeatedly, saying it was one of the best love stories they
had seen. They really identified falling in love with the person you "shouldn't" or "couldn't" be with. And some of the moments in
the film, like Jack watching Ennis in his (ahem) rear-view mirror or seeing a speck off in the distance... or even Ennis receiving a postcard with great
anticipation, was some seriously subtle (and n my mind controlled and excellent) film-making.

I'm SO glad it's getting some decent reviews, because my daughter wants to go see it for her birthday and I wasn't really looking forward to it, lol.I'd say more than some decent reviews; I've been hearing raves. I found the trailer equal parts intriguing and cheesy and find myself in the same position as you. Glad that it's getting weel received since my sister will inevitably make me watch it with her. |

It's not that surprising if you watch Cameron's trailers that always tended to look like crap

My friend just came back from seeing a screening of Avatar tonight and said it was amazing.

Yeah I wasn't planning on watching Avatar at all unless it got like really good reviews... and it did. So I might make it a double feature next weekend
with Avatar and Nine (I'm at New York so Nine has advanced screening by a week).

Is it true what south park says that avatar is a rip off of dances with wolves?

They ARE saying that the dialog is cheesy and the plot a bit clunky and oiverly simplistic... even the reviewers who like it. They just say it is amazing to
look at.

I just got back from seeing Precious and I don't think I've ever appreciated my parents as much as I do this moment.

I know this is shitty but I cant really get into a movie like Avatar in the same sense that I cant get into The Hulk cuz the graphics look so shitty and
unreal....to me at least....idk

They say it looks better onscreen. We can only hope. I dared write that on a fanboy site and nearly got my head ripped off.

I laughed out loud for nearly 4 minutes after seeing the Avatar trailer. I can't imagine any way in which it is good. However, I'll probably watch it
eventually out of morbid curiosity.

Okay, saw a few of the latest movies:
I thought Precious was way over the top. I feel I've seen this stuff over and over again (maybe Jerry Springer - Brothers: loved the acting but thought it was also a film I've seen before. LOVED the kids (Natalie Portman's children) in the film. They were amazing. Overall, good film but could be seen on DVD. -The Road: This film I liked a lot. Loved Viggo- he really 'got' the character and played the role to the hilt. I felt it was one of the rare movies that actually did the book justice (loved the book). Going to see the premier of 'A Single Man' with Colin Firth and Julianne Moore tomorrow. I hope it's a well written/acted film as I have high hopes. Love Colin Firth and who doesn't love Julianne Moore? C'mon, who? and... due to all the Brokeback Mtn. bitching: I loved the film and felt it deserved all the blessings it got. So, f-the naysayers

Best review ever for Avatar, from Metromix.com: "If I wanted to hear endless nonsense spewed from something good-looking, I'd watch The Tyra Banks
Show."

Just came back from watching 'A Single Man' and loved it! Great job on the '60's , Colin Firth put in a stellar performance along with the
'always good in a 60's flick, Julianne Moore'. So far, it's my fav. movie of the year. One of those movies my friends and I will talk about
long after watching it.
