My bad. I thought the one-year sit-out rule after a coaching change was just if you wanted to transfer in-conference. Maybe I'm thinking of that if you
transfer from DI to a lower division you don't have to sit out a year?

Correct, transferring to a lower division does not require the sitting of one year.
The NCAA does allow players to appeal the rule due to "hardships" but they are capricious in deciding who gets relief and who doesn't. For example, Colin Peek was a TE a Georgia Tech and when Paul Johnson was hired as the head coach, Peek's position was all but obsolete under the option offensive system he runs. He transferred to Alabama and asked for the NCAA to allow him to play immediately since staying a Georgia Tech meant he would probably sit the bench. They said no. The NCAA usually allows players with familial hardships to play immediately. A player from FSU was allowed to play immediately at Tennessee because he was from Nashville and his mother was diagnosed with cancer, so he wanted to be closer to her. But they also allowed Jamar Taylor from Lakeland to transfer from Alabama back to USF and play immediately because he was "homesick". So why does Taylor get the rule waived for "homesickness" but Peek, whose position was all but eliminated does not? Anyway, the NCAA sucks a big one. |

If you think that's bad, you should try hosting an NCAA postseason game. EVERYTHING is micromanaged, from where the concession stands can be to the exact
letterhead that must be used for signing in game officials. I remember trying to get into a super regional baseball game a few years ago when the game was all
but decided in the 8th inning. If it was a regular season game, I could have just walked in for free, but since it was the NCAA, I would still be required to
pay the $10 student ticket for an inning and a half. I just stood outside and watched over the fence.

This is the ONLY college game of the year that I truly enjoy. No BCS BS, no big money boosters, no overhyped 10 &1 Div. I teams who spent 9 of those games
playing Div. I-A and II creampuffs at home, no players enrolled at the school with no expectation of actually getting an education, and most especially: each
of these guys is going to do something with his life immediatly upon graduation.
I don't really have a favorite, but would love to see Army break the drought. Navy's uniforms look kind of fruity this year. And why two Bill the Goats on the sideline? I sense that they're slipping up. ETA: I LOVED the ad with the armored guy staring down the toy goat. |

Oh another reason to like these guys: no names on their jerseys. Nice shoestring tackle! Who are these announcers? They remind me of the announcers doing Dillon Panthers games on FNL -- WTF was the flag for?! |

I could understand Harbaugh leaving but I'd think he'd go for something a little better than Kansas. I guess maybe they would have a ton of basketball
money to use to pay him more than Stanford and maybe the admissions requirements for recruits would be different but that seems like kind of a lateral move to
me.
I'd think he'd wait a year to make his move and wait for DickRod to get fired at Michigan. |

True, perhaps, but if UM fires RichRod after next season, they'll have to buy out the remainder of Harbaugh's contract (~$5M, a gimme I suppose), offer
him some outrageous contract, and then offer incentives. If UM wants him, they'd probably be better to wait for the 2011 season.
Then again, as strange a fit as Harbaugh is at Stanford, considering the whole "snobbish" atmosphere that people view the school as, he's won over a lot of people at the university. Enough to justify for the first time ever a football coach earning more than the school president, much less over $1M. Plus, he's been remarkably apt at finding the student-athletes, those who could pass Stanford's admissions as well as be a football player. We have the 16th ranked recruiting class right now while USC has the 11th, the only Pac-10 school higher than us. |

Turner Gill is a great hire. Too bad he's at Kansas, where he won't be able to win consistently.

If he's that great, he will win consistently at Kansas. We play in the horrible Big 12 North, just win 4 of those, plus steal one or 2 from the south and
you're in a position to win a conference title and go to a BCS Bowl game.
