I doubt Angel even saw Trinity. It looked like he glanced right past him. He would've pointed him out when they had his picture up.

I wouldn't call it an alibi, because no one is going to suspect Dexter, they will immediately chalk it up to Trinity and a revenge killing against one of the Miami Metro police investigating him. They will think it's just bad luck and coincidence that Trinity targeted Dexter and Rita. However, I fully expect Deb to ask Dexter where he was during whatever time passed between Dexter leaving work and getting home to discover Rita dead in the tub. And here is where I think Quinn will but in like an asshole and claim that Dexter was out "chasing tail" during that time. Dexter copped to being a drug addict, when he really wasn't one, so I wouldn't be shocked if Dexter admits to cheating on Rita while she was being murdered. Who knows? But I hope this is one thing that Dexter does get called on and I don't see how he won't be questioned about it and most likely by Deb for her own curiosity. Or Quinn being an asshole and wanting to out Dexter as a cheating spouse. |

I can't see Dexter admitting to cheating on Rita for two reasons. The first being that despite Rita being dead I couldn't see him wanting to hurt the
family like that. Secondly because there is no girl to own up to. Police (or even Deb I would imagine) would want to talk to this mystery woman and if Dexter
couldn't produce her? That's just asking for him to become the new suspect for Rita's killer.
It was mentioned that it was Kyle not Dexter that was at the 4 Walls Build, but when they can't find Kyle and find that his home is a fictional place they could start looking for him. I think that the combination of finding out that Laura/Brian were Dexter's real family coupled with the loose ends of the Trinity investigation could lead the police, and more importantly Deb to finding out the truth. |

I've been wanting Rita dead for quite a while now, but I'm still sad it happened. Kudos to the writing team.
ETA: What exactly from this ending would make people turn away from the show? Everyone that I know watches this show wanted Rita gone.

Quote!
"Rita's gruesome bathtub death at the hands of Trinity was not, I repeat not, a dream. At least, that's not what the writers were thinking, according to executive producer Clyde Phillips." |

last night the car overheats or whatever happened to it right where no one was at and dexter was there in seconds. Was he in the backseat which is impossible
Uh....like how in the fuck does that happen. The guy left the garage it was day time right and then what seems to be hours later it overheats or starts dying because of no oil cap...wtf Huge time gaps last night for that and the killing of rita. I assume they do some flashback to cover the holes but really this is a lot to chew |

I am *assuming* that Dexter was in the trunk somehow and rigged it so he could get out? I doubt they will ever explain that however.
Yes, there were hours between when Arthur left Miami, and when Dexter got to him. Which means there were also many many hours before he got Arthur back to Miami, into the shipping container, killed, cut up and then disposed on the boat. At first I assumed that it was probably the early hours of the morning when Dexter got home HOWEVER he did try to call Rita, so I'm not entirely sure. Another thing that I think Dexter has been a little careless of is his shipping container. If they eventually find that as his kill site, it will be hard to deny that it is his ESPECIALLY now that Deb knows who his mom was, and how she died. |

Thanks for clearing up the parentage thing. I'd forgotten whether or not there was a paternity test done Season 1.
The FBI having the case would make it less likely that they tie it to Dexter, but I am still skeptical. The mother and brother would definitely bring up Kyle because he was there when the officers took the house (and then was suddenly gone). Unless these are the worst investigators in the world, they would get a sketch of "Kyle" as a possible Trinity accomplice and eventually make the connection to Dexter... but it's Hollywood and no one wants to see another federal man hunt ala season 2 of Prison Break (urgh). Although the husband/bf is almost always the first suspect in a murder, I don't think they'll take much time investigating Dexter. The crime fits so perfectly as a Trinity murder and given that Trinity's daughter already targeted Deb/ Deb was lead investigator on the case... they could explain it as payback for Deb discovering his identity and/or getting his daughter to shoot her head off. Dexter could just make up a weak alibi and no one would be the wiser. I liked Rita, but at least now we can get some new Dexter love interests. |

Well, he can get rid of the shipping container now and bring the window unit home.
I also think, if they address Trinity coming to the station, they will begin to think that he was stalking the Morgan family due to their involvement in catching Trinity. It will be "Poor Dex" and he won't have to explain much of anything where that is concerned. |

I wonder if they will have her come back next season as a angel to Harry's devil. This is a fantastic idea. After the Trinity ending as Dexter was monologuing about whether he could control and even someday defeat his DP, I mused that that would be the subtext of season 5, with Dexter actively trying to give it up, finding bad people but resisting killing them and so forth. Rita's death kinda puts a wrench in that, because she was at the center of what he wanted his normal life to be. If he loses the kids then he'll have no reason to be normal and he can keep doing what he's doing until the day he's caught. But if he does try to straighten up and fly right, it would make sense for Rita and Harry to be the dueling voices struggling for control. I'm sure he can slip his way out of it, but right now I don't see how Dexter gets out of this without at least Deb finding out. Telling her would be better than her finding out on her own, but no matter how she finds out she'll probably go insane and maybe even turn him in. And whether or not Deb knows, Quinn's gonna get worse and worse...it's been obvious since he turned out clean that Quinn is the writers making up for killing Doakes before they could do all they wanted with him. |

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was away so I had the last two episode to catch up on. I just did. OMFG!!!!!!!!!! I just speed-read all your comments and analysis and it's a bit over-whelming since I am still in shock. I was literally sitting on the sofa with my jaw wide open and with my hands on my face at Rita's murder. Completely on the side, and maybe it has been discussed before, but I always wondered if they taped this show in Long Beach, CA rather than in Miami cuz Dexter's house with Rita, and the houses in their neighborhood just look like houses in Long Beach. Also when they visit crime scenes I alway think "hey, that looks like Long Beach." But it was never so clear as it was when Trinity was driving around "Miami" in the Mustang. That was defnitely Long Beach, without question. So now I know. |

Can someone upload the video of Michael C Hall and John Lithgow discussing the finale that aired after the episode last night? It's been removed from
youtube.
On another note, did anyone catch the webchat with Lithgow this afternoon on Ustream? |

What reason did Dexter have for being at Trinity's? There was no crime scene or blood, what reason would a lab geek be doing in the field? Maybe the
clueless wonder(Deb) will notice that?

Deb and the others think Dexter headed to Trinity's along with everyone else is how I took it. They don't know he was there long before them. Deb was
indeed thinking it was strange that he was in the garage with the way she was staring at him but that's as far as it went.

Finding the baby in the blood is somewhat reminicsent of Dex's relationship with one of Rita's kids from the novels. I predict the SERIES finale will
indicate that harison will grow to continue dex's serial killin' ways.

I kept thinking that Arthur's son was going to kill him, and Dexter/Kyle was going to dispose of him and they would all keep it a secret.
I like what the writers did better. Great season finale! I found it on torrents, just like the entire season, gonna have to burn this season to DVD |
