Nevada has the number one leading rusher in the nation and doesn't come close to the Heisman. Notre Dame has one of the most accurate passers and doesn't come close to the Heisman. The Heisman voters know the competetion and many obviously hold the championship games as very heavy weight. Thus, if you have no championship you have a much harder road. Stanford's "Glebie" took second due to a "horrible" day for Colt McCoy against Nebraska. Yeah, a top ten defense. And, to further the boiling pot, I think it is a good example of the BCS rankings having trouble picking two teams for a championship. Voters aren't looking at the body of work -- at least not enough of them. Hell, since there are 34 bowls (over half the teams going to bowl games) why not hold off on the Heisman voting until after the BCS Championship? Sorry but the Heisman voting is no more equal than having voters pick the #1 team in the nation. I think Alabama has a tough situation now as Texas will be out to prove something. (Hopefully not to expose a limited running game and a one sided passing attack). I know Colt may just say it's over and to concentrate on the next game, but that's bull. Had McCoy won it, I think the same would have been true for Alabama. Bama may be number 1 now but do they have the advantage? I think the game is too close to call right now.

A national championship is at stake. If you need bulletin board material or awards slights to get up for that... well that's just sad.

Jake Locker will return for senior year with Huskies By Bob Condotta Seattle Times staff reporter With two simple words Monday - "I'm staying" - Jake Locker changed the course of Washington's football future. Locker, UW's junior quarterback, made that statement around 11 a.m. Monday to coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, not only settling the issue that loomed over UW's offseason more quickly than anyone anticipated, but also setting off a raucous celebration in Husky Nation. But Locker, who recently turned 21, decided he wanted to finish the rebuilding of UW's football program while also continuing to groom himself for a solid long-term NFL future. "After a great deal of careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to return to Washington and play my senior year," Locker said in a statement released by the university. "I am very excited about this team's opportunities and potential for the upcoming season and I am looking forward to being a part of it."

I think the media will ask the question should Texas beat Alabama. I think the media will toss the idea around on tv leading up to the game and make sure it becomes an issue to talk about. ESPN has already started it. There are coaches that will likely use it in their game preparation -- probably on both sides. And, a few years ago when Texas won the National Championship under Vince Young, Vince even said it after the game on a side line interview and in a press conference. So, yes it matters.
