It just annoys me a little bit that Meryl will pretty much get nominated for every role she does no matter what. She's not winning best actress for Julie & Julia, period. But she'll likely be nominated. It just feels like a wasted slot a lot of the time.

Watched 2 films today - "A Single Man" and "Princess and the Frog".
"Princess and the Frog" is very classic Disney with dreams and making wishes and true love, all that shit that they feed into your brains when you're a kid so you get disappointed when you grow up. It's cute, and you know Disney's trying to up the ante with some heavy drama in parts, but it is no way beating "Fox" or "Up" for Best Animated Feature. "A Single Man" is okay. I feel like Ford went way too overboard with the colors and the lack of colors (you'll understand what I'm saying if you watch the film). It just seemed like since it's his first time directing, he was trying too hard to be artsy, but the story and the tension was brilliantly done. Plus Colin Firth was really good. Julianne Moore was okay and I can see why the Globes would take notice but I wouldn't have nominated her - part is tiny and not acting not even that grand to begin with, anyone could have done it, really. Nicholas Hoult ("About a Boy", "Skins") was good too. |

I saw Me & Orson Welles today. I liked it a lot for entertainment value, but it's not Oscar caliber by any means. Christian McKay as Orson Welles is
however. He was fantastic. And I don't care what anyone thinks, Zac Efron is dreamy and I could look at him all day long.
Also saw Invictus yesterday. Great movie, but it takes a while to develop. Great acting however. That's 5 movies in 5 days. I'm going to see how long I can keep this up. I'm racking up the Regal points. Tomorrow will probably be An Education. |

Holy shit at Up in the Air snub from ensemble and Diane Kruger's nomination! Totally LOVE both of these things, though. Kruger was one of the best
things about Inglourious Basterds.

Sandra Bullock very well could win the Oscar. At this point, she's a lock for a nomination. She's very well known and respected in Hollywood, so that
gives her an edge. Meryl/Helen have already won, so voters might want to give someone else a chance to win it. I think this might finally be Sandra's year.

Didn't Doubt get snubbed for Best Ensemble but everyone had an individual nomination? Same goes for Up in the Air I guess.
In other news, watched "The Hurt Locker" today. I really enjoyed it. One would think the constant camera movement would distract and be annoying but it felt right, being that it was a battlefield, anything can happen, anyone can be an enemy, the bomb could go off at any time. It was brilliant, and here I am not big on war movies. This had a diff. feel to it (maybe coz it was just focused on the bomb team but hey). I wouldn't mind seeing it win best picture. I was interested in The Hurt Locker until I found out it's about the Iraq war. That's like one of the very last things on earth I'd like to see a
movie about. I'd even watch an animated film before I saw that. Yuck.
